  1. I have a DeWalt cooler does that count? Haha never knew DeWalt had shoes, do you know who makes them? I bought snap on socks before, they were very nice actually!

  2. What do you guys do with your old tools? I am always upgrading an left with the old ones. I also somehow accumulate tools. Usually if I hear someone wants/needs one I give it to them. My used Bosch 12 volt stuff went to theultimatehic. I had some other stuff I no longer needed so tossed in the box. I have literally two boxs of extra screwdrivers so gave some to a neighbor kid. For the hassle an time it takes I rarely sell stuff. Ten bucks isn't worth ten lowball offers 5 of which are from questionable people. If it's something big it's worth the hassle but the small stuff I just "pay it forward"

  3. Hey guys, I made a second chair for my wife and had just enough wood left over that I could make two footrests and a table. As I said before, I made the chairs from Fine Woodworking plans. The footrests and table were designs that I figured out. I can't tell you how frickin comfortable these chairs are with the footrests. I have a feeling we are going to be drinking a few margaritas from them this summer.

  4. Another big splurge: I've been doing a lot of painting recently and I'm told that cutting in by hand is easier with a stiffer brush, so I bought this to complement my other two Purdy brushes. They give a good finish but they have very soft bristles: I've been using those two brushes for over 20 years. I know most paintbrushes die of neglect, but here's proof that they'll last and last if you take care of them well.

  6. Can't thank you guys enough for the feedback! Being away from home and having no friends or any social circle here, I don't really have many places to turn to! So I appreciate it massively and I'll be taking it all on board! One of the worst parts about it is that I know I am just as at fault as they are! I didn't stand up for myself early enough and let them walk over me! Now going over and above for no reward is just expected! I think Ill just have to Invest in a decent van and top up my tools and start looking elsewhere! Knowing the management they won't take it well if I raise my issues, which really isn't a great approach to running a business. I have already mentioned some of the problems and next to none of them have been dealt with. As I said I have also raised the issue with pay but it has fallen on deaf ears. My hourly rate isn't great compared to other places here in Australia. I did say when I was talking about my pay that if it was about the money I would have left 6 months ago but I am passionate about what this company does and I'd love to be part of their success but for the stress and responsibility it's not worth it at the moment. I could make 10-20% more per hour to go and work back on the tools for other companies here. From what I hear we had a +$30M turnover last year and we are borrowing money to pay subcontractors this year. Of course this is just hear say around the place but I could see it being true.

  9. Dewalt does seem to use good OEMs for the stuff they don't make, like the CLC-made bags and kneepads(I think). It's not like the majority of licensed merch that Snap-On or Craftsman has. I think it's smart to not license your name out to anyone but to fill in the market holes with your products OEMed by a decent company, Dewalt seems to understand that difference.

  15. Guess what future woodworker got to go to Woodcraft yesterday.... Thats right! Oh yeah! And he helped daddy pick out a brand spanking new CT26 dust collector and a big pile of new Festool sanding pads and papers for free courtesy of my boyz at Woodcraft (not the CT.....that would have been awesome!!!!) Also found out there's a Festool roadshow at the Newington NH Woodcraft on April 1st at 0800 with free lunch! Hope some crew are in the area!

  16. I have been in the same boat as you, for the past 2 months or so. I also just needed tools to do work at my home and farm. My work is however a bit extensive, but still not something that guaranteed buying the best or top-notch stuff out there as I wouldn't be using these tools every day, once the current workload is finished. However, due to the scale of the current task at hand, I was able to justify buying top level stuff, despite just being a home user. I have however, decided to be a little smart about it. I have decided not to wander off when buying the tools and only buy what I am going to use for sure. I ordered Knipex Pliers worth $230 recently, but I chose them very carefully and hence with just 5 pliers, I will be able to tackle all the plumbing and electrical work at my house and farm. So, if you have the money to splurge, then it's great. But even if you don't, you can slowly build your collection by buying top flight tools, but only those which you need at the moment and not buy big kits just so that you can get your hands on every single tool out there. For example, I would have loved to buy a cordless circular saw and recip saw, but I decided to wait as they were not that important for me right now and instead ordered the best Hammer Drill and Impact Combo I could. Same is the way I am going with accessories. I could have bought big sets of Impact bits from Dewalt/ Makita/Hitachi etc. , but since I know I will only be using either Phillips or Hex head screws, I decided to buy them loose. That way I am able to buy Makita Golds, although I am currently looking at Wera Impactor as well.

  17. Tool Buying Guide.... Tools have been around for a very long time helping people everyday from just being there to show manhood to down right making a living. Everyone has to start somewhere, some people are lucky to have other people in their lives to help with this part of life by showing them the ropes. I'm going to go over a few things you should think about if you are ready to have tools be part of your everyday life for helping with self accomplishment or profit. There are many brand names available that tend to show off their flagship tools, with ads that tend to make the tougher jobs look simple, that is all well and fine if you have experience with tools but what if you don't. If you are ready to dip into the tool world and have very little to no experience here are a few things to think about. You can start out with basic hand tools like a hammer, tape measure, and a hand saw but now days we all want convenience as well..... so power tools are usually the way to go. Many brands offer corded power tools in pretty much every shape or form but taking a step further are cordless power tools. Now in saying that many brands have most all cordless power tools needed to do almost every tasks. Some manufactures cater to different area's of the work force, not all brands offer all kinds of tools in every field, think about what you might want to do with your new tools now and in the future. This is important because it can reflect on what brand to buy into. This without saying there is nothing wrong with buying into more than one brand or battery platform but you may want to do this in the future. There are also different power in tools mainly in the volts you see advertised. 12V and 18V/20V are the most common, most tool companies offer many tools in both power ratings. These tools are very different in size and power, the 12V options offer adequate power to handle most things with a compact size as well. The 18v/20v versions are usually the power houses of the line of tools offered. So the question is do I need one or the other or both, well this is where it can get tricky, the 18v/20v versions of the tools are not only larger and heavier but usually come with a larger price tag as well. Again it is not wrong to have or want both but if you are just starting out, the larger more powerful 18v/20v is usually the way to go to get started. Another thing is all the talk about brushed or brushless versions of tools, not all tools are equal not all brands offer all tools in both versions. The newer technology is the brushless tools and they usually come with a higher price. Is the brushless style needed? well not totally. They will however offer slightly more power and battery run time but that is not saying a brushed version is not good. If you are just starting out most times the best economical way to buy your tools are in combo kits, you will receive multiple tools that are mainly paired up with a drill/driver and an impact/driver, Note about impact drivers: Although most manufactures introduced the impact driver not all that long ago and deem the new tool to be the drivers of all drivers they don't play nice with every application. As impact drivers tend to pound or hammer when driving, an impact driver is still a great tool for many applications however for some delicate driving a regular drill will do a better job. Some of the larger kits will tent to include a reciprocating saw, circular saw along with a light of some kind. These kits generally come with 2 batteries ranging in power ratings of small compact 1.5 ah right up to 5.0ah batteries and a matching charger. You may think I'm never gonna need these extra tools that are included in the kit but when you add up the costs the more in the kit the cheaper the individual tools become, so in saying that once you do own them and you find you don't use them there is a good chances someone will purchase them from you to help offset the original cost. Do some research, think about what you will want to do, find a big box store that have these different brands on display so you can get a feel for the tools in your own hands, just like seeing a fancy sports car, it may look great but not always are they comfortable for everyone to drive. All different tool companies come with all different warranties for their tools, some are very different from one another some are better than others as well. This can reflect on what brand to buy into but it shouldn't. I am not going to go into what brand is best or what brand to try and avoid but I would stick to brand names that are known. I hope this helps by giving you something to think about before jumping into the tools world.....Good Luck!

  21. Yeah, the guy does not have a filter when he talks, just tells it like he sees it. Overall though I was impressed with DeWalt's build quality. In their defense the Fein teardown didn't have any epoxy on their winding either. Though they were attached better and less susceptible to vibration.

  23. We all knew how this would play out. Let's not kid ourselves. Started sanding the outside for paint. Since I redid the drill press my ocd would get the better of me sooner or later if I didn't redo the outside of the grinder. Not sure how much more I will do. They are only vacuum cleaned right now. 26. Speaking of Purdy paintbrushes. I posted this pic already: That brush runs $12.99 at Amazon and $13.48 at Lowe's. But if you search "Purdy paint brushes" at Amazon, a lot of sponsored results come up for this Chinese knockoff: That's the clearest case of copycat packaging and design I've ever seen. I'm amazed Purdy hasn't sued to stop them. You get an 8-pack of these for $32.99, so roughly a third the price of the real thing. The thing that irks me the most is the little US flag under the words "DESIGNED FOR USA," which of course means it wasn't designed in USA, let alone made here like the Purdy. The Amazon user reviews are pretty positive; the general opinion seems to be "almost as good as a Purdy." There are pros buying them because they're cheap enough to throw away at the end of a job. Does this bug you as much as it bugs me?

  35. Ordered a set of 3" Kreg Automaxx clamps. 2 of them on eBay for $34, basically buy one get one free. I can't help it, I just like these clamps. I've always used quick release C-Clamps, so this will be a real relief. Changed it up a little bit today. Half the kids PS4, Xbox, and movie disc are scratched to hell. Part of me wants to tell them tough shit and motivate them to take better care of their stuff, but part of me understands they are still little and aren't going to. Soooo, I ordered a JFJ Easy Pro and Eyecon combo. The Eyecon works for resurfacing Blu-Ray based discs and Easy Pro works for pretty much anything else. They get great reviews and some of the YouTube demos are pretty impressive. Got both for $229. It will pay for itself the first day if it works half as well as the YouTuber's claim. There goes the Dewalt Biscuit Joiner I was eyeing ☹️

  38. From several accounts i trust to be accurate on Instagram, the Milwaukee SDS plus 2715 (1-1/8") has an edge over the Makita x2, that's one thing I read over and again, is that it's the most powerful cordless SDS in that class.

  39. Like you said, not worth it if small items. I did sell my SnapOn classic 96 box on craigslist, that actually went quite well. I've passed a few things on to new guys here at work, screwdrivers, and a buddy of mine got a few triple square socket bits for his Volkwagen, since i no longer have one. I still have most of my mechanics tools, and the only other tools i really had to get rid of was the old XRP dewalt line, they were used and abused and no one would be able to use them without some surgery haha

  42. Meet with dewalt testing/ developments rep today. Looks like there coming out with a brushless router, heat gun (which was really cool), and a 4"wood/tile saw (like the 60v grinder but blade is to the side). After the prototypes get chosen i get to test em after manufacturing of finished tool.

  45. Didn't buy it, but this 52 model Delta-Rockwell table saw and jointer were given to me. It's mechanically flawless, cosmetically challenged, but still servicalble. Came with a 3/4 hp / 10 amp Century motor. Thinking maybe a dedicated dado saw, but it isn't going to happen with that motor. Whatever I do with it, it'll be a fun project.
