  7. As some of you guys may remember, my house was built by idiots and occupied previously by idiots as well. I've been working on redoing it since we moved in and finally after several idle months, I feel well enough to get back to business. Today was a beautiful day, work was slow, and it felt pretty damn good to have the saws out and making a mess. The staircase was interesting. Everything about it was done wrong. I went down to the bare stringers, and even they looked like they were cut by blind children. Mrs. Conductor wanted these deco pieces she found on Pinterest rather than a traditional skit board. Got them cut out, painted, and today I started the install. Tomorrow I will finish filing gaps and maybe get as far as paint. The bandsaw has already covered the money I have in it. And yes, this foyer was at one time pepto pink in it entirety ?

  8. I hope also...but wise words @Bremon to plan around not having the adapter...I personally like acme, because they have new tools early and have great deals and returns are no problem...but almost all framers I know just buy off the shelf at lowes or Home Depot ,because it's easy and convenient to return tools if needed.. .. of course my Hilti products I get from a salesman who comes by in a van full of shiny red tools...like Santa , but far from Free ! .and takes care of repairs if needed. ..... More Tools....More POWA !

  9. @Bremon it wasn't a rumor. Rob from concord carpenter confirmed it was "in development". I still feel it could eventually come out even if the rumored version you talked about is too big. Maybe it was put back on the drawing board until a smaller design is developed?

  10. If 6 lbs heavier means I can get a real saw instead of the Fuel 10" I'll take the weight everytime. Table saw sales probably lag because people expect the 10" to come in at the 8.25" weight. Home Depot isn't where a lot of contractors I know buy much of anything. Tools like that are big dollar though, a new circ, recip, etc., those are all in the impulse buy price range. I would definitely buy a 10" 60v non-slider to compliment my 12" slider though. @Framer joe I heard rumblings of a 60v adapter for quite a while. This past week I was told it's off the table. Hopefully you're right and it happens.

  22. I definitely have a problem, I've started realizing this: Doesn't include a couple clamp meters or my non-Fluke DMMs: These are just the 4" PH2s from my screwdriver sets(Except the Klein which is a single), I also have other screwdrivers from other makes...and this doesn't include three unopened Wera sets and a new Craftsman set I just bought: Knipex is also at 67 pieces

  23. Sign up for Ebates account, find retailer you are purchasing from (not every retailer is there), see % you get back from them by shopping with Ebates, click the Ebates link to shop with chosen retailer. An Ebates rebate # us created and you are directed to the site. Make your purchase as you normally would. Ebates emails you with the rebate amount and then deposits the funds into your Ebates account. Once every quarter Ebates mails you a check. [emoji106] It's really easy and saves a few dollars. Note: on purchase above I got back ~$4.50 which is 1.5% back from the original purchase amount, not the Acme discount price. Discount is taken off original price. Acme Lowe's Ace Hardware Zoro All these I use Ebates on regularly

  25. I don't have a problem? I see a tool I want, hands shake..eyes twitch, walk out of the store, pace back and forth a few times then walk back in and buy the tool. Been doing this for years, whats the problem

  26. The point of a well rounded line isn't so you can buy multiple sizes of every style of tool, like your saw example (though you're on a forum of people who wouldn't think less of you for it), the point is everyone can have a tool closest to exactly what they need for their particular workflow. It also helps you stay as closely as possible to the single battery platform ideal ecosystem manufacturers try to sell us on. I'd rather have a 5-3/8 little trim saw and a big 7-1/4 than a 6.5/7.25 combo for instance. 12v represents lightweight and compact, as you said, but it should also represent options, and choices for runtime like the 18v class does. Duplication of tools already available in 20v Max is what gives us the lightweight and compact option in the first place. I don't see the issue when every manufacturer offers 6+ drills in the 18v line as well as multiple versions of other tools that getting a compact lightweight 12v version should be an issue. M12 represents a line about as old as 12v Max that actually gets attention and R&D money. M12 marketshare is what SBD could have if they stopped pretending to give a crap and started actually giving a crap. CXT, regardless of why Makita felt they had to start over, represents a line that is getting serious R&D and marketing. 12v Max represents a token half-assed effort and some nice lasers. Despite my preference for slide packs I can also see that stem packs help fulfill a 12v tools goal of compact form factor. As for compatibility, you're describing the charging experience of every person who has M18 and M12 tools: one charger. Not particularly novel. What would be novel is if the lasers in the OP had the same flexibility with batteries that the radios you mention do. Then @Hugh Jass and I would be happy, you wouldn't be reading my whining, and we could all believe Dewalt aren't liars when they say crap like they're "fully committed" to 12v Max.

  28. I have decided on Wood Nut Workshop as my "business" name. I have messed around with a logo too in case I need one at some point. Here is what I have. Please give me any feedback or suggestions you may have. I don't know how well it shows up, but the nut and bolt combo has a wood grain overlay.

  29. Makita CXT is what, 18 months old? The line is already more impressive than 12v Max, which is a senior citizen by comparison at almost 7 years. M12 on the other hand, to say has "some tools the others don't" is hilarious. It's diverse enough to replace the need for 18v tools at all for some people. 2 ratchets, palm nailer, circular saw, multiple lights (lantern, flood, swivel head, etc.), right angle impact, multiple imaging devices from inspection cameras to thermal imagers. Not to mention a ton of specialty tools. The only thing 12v Max has over M12 is a nicer subscanner and more diverse lasers. M12 is the industry star, Makita is the up-and-comer, Bosch is sort of a has-been, while Dewalt is the never-was. But at least they're putting out these lasers ? As for how fast tool production tools along, have you seen Milwaukee's Rapid prototype design? They can 3D print and build a working prototype ridiculously fast and to think that's limited to them is ridiculous. That's without comparing a saw (a motor, housing, shoe, and miscellaneous parts) to a plane. Dewalt's not-a-worm may have been in works for ages but I'm sure things like the rafter hook it's sure to have weren't omitted for cost cutting like on the sidewinder.

  30. I wouldn't consider amassing a healthy assortment of tools a "problem" per se. Having served in the Army for over 15 years, I've met a lot of people who spend their hard-earned cash to collect much more trivial things like watches, shoes, and tacti-cool gear (which is usually paired with customizing AR-15s or other weapons). Quality tools are items that can always pay for themselves, should the need arise. Home project? Do it yourself and potentially save thousands. Need a job? Not saying that you'll make six figures, but many construction-type jobs are usually available and having your own tools isn't a bad thing. For example, I bought the 20v Max screwgun last year when it came with a free collated attachment. Around the same time I was buying buckets of Senco collated screws on clearance at Lowe's for $5 or so each. Didn't necessarily need the screwdriver or the screws right then, but it all panned out when I had a drywall project a few weeks ago. Okay, maybe I'm just trying to justify spending thousands on professional grade tools when my primary work tool is an M4A1.

  31. We're not whining over stupid stuff, it's simply logical. There is zero need for this tool to be 12v instead of 20v, at all...zip, zilch, nada. I'd bet money that Dewalt's sales comparison between 20v and 12v is at least 10,000 to 1. What they must be trying to do is compel people to buy in, but it's not going to work well since their 12v offerings are complete and total shit outside of these levels. They waited way, way too long and Milwaukee has dominated the category in amazing fashion, even in the professional sector. Dewalt will never compete at this level this late in the game, they're pouring a lot of resources into going bigger, not smaller...and then all the sudden this? It's kind of pathetic IMO, as though they looked at M12 and said "HA, they don't have green lasers! Let's make those because they don't have them!" when they don't have really anywhere else to go with it. As said it would make a lot more sense for them to eliminate the 12v tools and blow out a bunch of 8v ultra compacts for the DIY crowd since 12v is already so highly competitive and complete, they might do really well there. Their gyroscopic screwdriver and small worklight is well received...but again, the only two things available. WTF. Anyway this will be my last comment on the subject. I hate repeating myself. Also thank you for your service.

  33. Mine is electric, wired it to run off of my trucks battery through the 7-pin wire plug. Beats the hell out of cranking by hand...sometimes I connect and disconnect 4 times a day. You can find them for under $100. That said, it's pretty slow. I probably could have done what you're suggesting and remove the handle to fit a socket or something directly to the crank shaft. It would be stupid fast with dewalt's premium 3 speed drills.

  35. I'm not crazy about it either. They foyer was a pain in the ass. We used 16 ft pieces, but we had to use a seem in all the spans. 17' 20' etc. I've never went up and down a ladder that many times in a day before. I've got enough left to do one of the bathrooms, just haven't decided which one. The upside is that it's no longer laid out in my shop. A 16' x 12' or so section right in the middle magically opened up, lol

  36. Today I got the new crown up. What pain in the ass. 18' ceiling in the foyer. I made corner boxes which not only look nicer, but made the process a lot easier. Poor bastard in the pick is a neighbor. It was a bad week for him to be off all week on spring break. In exchange for his help, I'm going to make his wife a couple of end tables. I decided last minute to go across the front of the fireplace. The old crown skipped this step and terminated on each end of the brick. These ended up being the only miter+bevel cuts I had to make. I'm glad I went this route as in the end, it really gave the room an extra touch of class. I don't have any before pics, but it's amazing what a difference a little extra effort made.

  38. Brand spanking new house we did plumbing and HVAC, getting ready to install faucets after the counter top guys do their work, it's that far off center (right side of my level) how does this happen!! .. Also at this house: .. Gaps everywhere... Trim won't fit/seal properly .. Also later they had water coming through the ceiling below this shower, when the tile guys set the base and glued into our drain line, they butchered the fitting and so it leaked right away.... This is the most expensive, involved house I've worked in, but somehow moonlight Joe got the tile job lol
