  1. I like the look, and the color is nice but I also agree about Ryobi. https://toolcraze.net/hercules-20v-cordless-power-tools-harbor-freight-selling-blue-dewalt-tools/ This was interesting.
  2. I was torn between this weedeater and the EGO. I went with this one so I could ease into the Ryobi line.
  3. Needed a 2nd weedeater and figured I'd go battery powered. I like the things I've been hearing about Ryobi for a couple years so I picked this up http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-18-Volt-Lithium-Ion-Cordless-String-Trimmer-Edger-P2080/206451828 While we were at Home Depot I showed my wife their dustbuster and she liked that it could be used on the stairs leading out of the garage. It will be easier to clean the workbenches with this thing (instead of dragging the shopvac over) and since I had the OK from Mrs. Obvious we made the purchase. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-ONE-EVERCHARGE-Hand-Vacuum-Kit-P714K/206594038 Everything seems pretty legit so far. I remember the old blue Ryobi tools and wasn't really a fan but I like what I've seen today.
  4. Thanks for the kind words. I was able to get ahold of a shop teacher of 37 years who has a TON of info he's sharing with me. I'm releasing it as fast as I can but there is so much material! I finally got a YouTube channel up also and we have some powerpoint presentations of some of his lessons. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCG6NPSuCt9XEUdAzttOvycw This is a pretty huge undertaking but I feel it's important to share this knowledge with the people that haven't had either a shop class or a parent to teach them these skills.
  5. After realizing that shop classes all over the country have been in decline for a few decades, I decided to start a website devoted to learning the things that kids should be learning in shop class. ShopClassKids.com. I have 3 boys and I want to make sure they know the things that are no longer being taught in school. The plan is to make this a place where people can go to learn the basics of woodworking, welding, automotive, CNC and whatever else everyone feels would be a good idea. Even if kids don't go into the trades this would still give them general handyman skills. It's only been up for a few weeks but we're adding content multiple times a week. If you guys have any suggestions or resources we could use, let me know! I figure in order to increase the number of email subscribers I will bribe people by giving away tools as we reach certain milestones. So please, check it out and sign up for email updates!
  6. I've heard stories of non-OEM batteries melting but haven't actually seen much evidence either way. I think it's clear the quality isn't anywhere near as good but I would be interested in reading about someone who's used these knock-off batteries for an extended period of time and get their feedback.
  7. I still change the oil in our vehicles. We have a Chevy Colorado and GMC Yukon, so no need to get out ramps and jack stands because I can easily fit underneath. I use synthetic oil and go 5-6000 between changes. I keep the used oil in a 5 gallon bucket and empty it out at Auto Zone for free when I go in to buy oil and filters for the next change. When I bought my first car that actually required a monthly payment I took it in to the dealer for the first oil change and they forgot to add new oil!!! Ever since then I've done it on my own. A lot of people in my area just change their own. Cost wise it's probably not worth it if you use conventional oil but I definitely save money with synthetic plus I go much longer between changes.
  8. I wanted to make a couple chairs for the outdoor firepit and I did not want to spend any money. This is my first one. I went with an Adirondack styled chair. You may notice the free floating armrests. I wanted to use the stud pieces of the pallets for armrests and they weren't quite long enough. What I ended up doing was use a few metal brackets I had to secure them to the front posts. This could have turned out a lot better but I didn't want to spend much time on it. Dollar wise, I am just out the cost of screws and metal brackets, which I already had.
  9. You could strap it to the front of your truck! That way you could clear the main road too.
  10. Welcome aboard! I'm curious, what made you decide on Kobalt?
  11. All I have is a corded Genesis angle grinder I picked up from Sutherlands.
  12. I'm new here but this thread reaffirms that signing up was a great idea. You guys have a lot of knowledge not only on how well the tools from different brands are made, but how the companies behind them are running things. This is all great info. Thanks for a great site!
