A trip through the archives of Tools in Action and ToolGuyd displays how far the cordless tool market has come in the past decade or so. Early articles on each site capture the look of the 2008-2011 tool market, and there are many gems that cover the tools available back then--established brands, new products, and optimistic predictions of what the future would look like. Well, it's the future, and I'd venture to say that few of us expected the cordless job site to look like it does now back in the dark days of 2009. The tools have gotten smaller, smarter and become brushless, and a number of brands have cut the cord on tools that necessitated a generator or other power source just a few years ago. Not everything has changed, though, as Ryobi One+ was already over a decade old and the M12 and M18 lines were getting off to a decent start. DeWalt, on the other hand wouldn't release 12v Max tools until 2010, with 20v Max coming about a year later. Anyway, the point of this thread is to examine exactly how the cordless tool market has changed since 2008. If you have the time, share a few articles from way back when along with anything you want to add.

Hi I need some help with a Porter-Cable orbital sander 382... I took it apart to clean it and forgot to take a picture of the top and now I can't figure out how the wires go... Exactly just one of the wires I cannot figure out how it goes it doesn't seem like it will go the route I wanted to or maybe I'm trying to plug it into the wrong spot I can't find a picture at the top of the sander on the internet... So someone can help me with either a picture or some kind of diagram to show how the wires loop around the plastic and where they plug into... I will include a picture of what it looks like now and maybe somebody can just explain what I'm doing wrong it's the white wire on the right that is messing me up....does it plug into next to the switch or next to where the cord goes into?? please help thank you

As I'm finishing up a couple of projects around the house. I desperately needed to round everything up and put everything away and organize everything. As I was collecting the horde, I figure I would post a glamour shot of the Porter Cable tools that I have and let them represent the other Porter Cable fans we have out there. We have the fan base of Team Red, Team Yellow and Team Green but don't forget about team Grey and Black or whatever color scheme they are trying to establish!. LOL

I haven't seen a mention of these nailers on here so I created this post. I read about these a couple weeks ago and was amazed DeWalt hasn't announced the 18ga nailer to accompany the 16ga unit. Per 'Tools of the Trade': "Porter-Cable recently introduced a new lineup of cordless nail guns for finish carpenters, woodworkers, and remodeling contractors. The PCC790, a 18 gauge brad nailer, and the PCC791, a 18 gauge crown stapler are scheduled to hit the market in Dec 2015 and Jan 2016 respectively." Came across a Porter Cable brad nailer 18g for $70.00 at Home Depot. I know they say the price is cheaper, but I have never used the tool. So I guess I am not sure if this is a deal worth posting about or not? FB82

Any opinions on the best belt sander? I hear a lot about Porter Cable and Makita on this! Also, what is the way to go... 3x21 or 3x24? Thanks, FB82

So I was wondering because the Stanley Black and Decker company owns: -Dewalt -Black and Decker -Porter Cable -Mac tools And all these brands have a 20 volt max lithium ion cordless line does that mean that they are interchangeable. I'm just wondering if you could say: -Go buy a Black and Decker 20 volt cordless hedge trimmer and run it on Dewalt batteries. -Charge up a porter cable battery pack with a Dewalt charger Because I know that mac tools runs their new cordless line on the Dewalt 20 volt batteries as an option but can it go beyond that.
