Jronman
so what are you doing in the picture with your legs sticking up? Have you ever seen any cast iron pipe full of black sludge type stuff? Is the last picture plumbers installing shingles? Ever find any old newspapers, magazines, or anything else hidden in the walls or ceilings/floors? A guy at work found 3 papers from early 1900's hidden in the ceiling of one of our current jobs. I'm down in a crawlspace cutting out some old cast iron pipe to be replaced with PVC. The black sludge yes, it's everywhere in the old cast pipe, just from debris build up from washing dishes, washing hands, shaving, stuff going down the drains, catches on the rough interior of the pipe and builds up. The last pic is just showing what the Grace stuff is meant for, as a comparison. The newspaper was in a crawlspace, that's about all i've found can't recall anything else off the top of my head

Haha no, that's a shower valve you're looking at and someone chopped the opening in the shower wall without using a hole saw properly

KnarlyCarl
.. That is supposed to be a solid stainless band around the pex pipe. Apparently, the manufacturer is in a lawsuit because it's happening all over. If you have this in your house, get it out!!!
