  1. Ha! I'm obviously new to it as well. The pump came yesterday but I didn't have time to glue anything up last night due to getting out of work late. I'm picking my son up from preschool here soon and will get them glued up while he is eating lunch. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  2. I bought some 404 filler as well. This thickens it up. Add as much as as little to get the consistency you want. https://www.rockler.com/west-systemreg-epoxy-filler Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  3. Khari good question. The reasons why I went with epoxy are: 1. Longer open time than yellow glue. 2. I have never used epoxy before and wanted to try it. 3rd and most important it is gap filling. Even with the Domino's I had to shave a little off of some of them to get fitted flush on the bottom and top of the pieces. The epoxy will fill those gaps and hopefully give me a stronger joint than if just normal glue. 4. Marc did it in the vid and I have to be cool like him. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  4. So I got everything sanded...which took a while. Last night I attempted to glue up the night stand sides but I messed up the epoxy ratio as I didn't have both pumps. Today I tried to clean out the epoxy that didn't set up and weighed out the epoxy this time. I only did one of the sides of the night stand. Wasted epoxy but if this works I will go ahead and do the other side of the night stand and chest of drawers Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  5. The night stand is sanded to 220 with a seal coat on. I'm loving this air dried walnut. It really pops with the finish on it. The dresser frame is sanded at 150. I still need to sand the panels. I think I am going to wait until Monday for the sides to be glued/epoxied together. I want to buy some thickener for the epoxy so it won't be so runny. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  6. Chest of drawers is up. And the main pieces are fitted. Up next is sanding everything. Then I will glue the sides together. This will help me get better measurements for the web frames. I purchased some total boat clear epoxy and it arrived yesterday but it is missing one of the pumps. [emoji849] Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  7. Been a while since an update. All of the panels are glued up, sanded to 180, and cut to length. The night stand panels have the rabbets cut and everything fit into place. The rear panel is made of maple ply and will be painted like the hamper I already made. Right now I am working on the rabbeting the panels for the chest of drawers. I'll finish those and cut the rear panel tonight after work. If you don't have a cabinet scraper I recommend one. They work great to clean up glue joints. Also the other day my drum sander conveyor belt broke. Luckily I ordered a new one and it arrived the previous day. I took the time to clean up the rusty metal pieces to clean everything up. Up next is the web frames. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  8. Resaw day today. I resawed the rest of the panels and drum sanded one panel to get them relatively flat so cauls to keep the joints flat in glue up. I might try and do another when I get home tonight but I have to work OT tommorow at the illini football game. If you haven't gotten at least a few hand planes I highly recommend them. The saw marks were not very good for glue up. A few passes with the LAJ and they were glass smooth. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  9. Solid progress today. Could have been more but I needed to mow the lawn. Last night I got the chest of drawers top panel pieces glued up. Today I got the rest of the panel pieces cut, ripped on the band saw, jointed, planed, and are resting right now. Tomorrow hopefully I can get these resawn on the band saw and get a few pieces glued up. If you do the glue up right they essentially look like a larger piece that was resawn and bookmatched for the panel. Each panel takes two pieces that have to be resawn to get the width that is needed and save on waste. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  10. More progress today and a setback at the same time. I did a dry fit of the pieces again and realized I didn't route out the dado for the top panels. I'll need to set the router table back up and do that. I did manage to make the jig for the router to route out the spaces for the web frames to insert into. Next I started to work on making the panels. The walnut was all the at the bottom of the cherry pile so I had to dig them out. The plans call for 1/2" but my walnut is slightly over 1" now. With resawing, jointing, and sanding I believe I can get 3/8" and I'm fine with that. The boards I have are over 11" wide so to joint them I had to rip them down the center. This will give me an extra glue joint but it will be fine. Those two pieces got resawn and are currently in two sets of clamps. I'll run them through the drum sander to get them closer to equal thickness for the final glue up. Reason for me doing it this way is the bandsaw wasn't perfectly centered on the board so it would be hard to get cauls to work to keep one face flat of the other sides are not equal. 11. Today I got the panel grooves cut for the nightstand. Tomorrow I'll get the chest of drawers done. Then make the jig to route out for the web frames to insert into the legs. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  12. Second set of mortises cut. Up next is the grooves for the side panels and I have to make a jig to route out the mortises for the web frames. Into the legs. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  13. No shop time the past week. I had to help my mother move out of her house. I got half of the Domino's mortised out. Each joint still needs one more cut. I couldn't help myself and had to out it together to get the feel of the size of the pieces. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the other mortises cut. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  14. Never heard of florip. I'd love to own some blue spruce stuff....someday. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  15. Picked up a drum sander today and I'm pretty stoked. Came with a mobile base. There was a pneumatic accessory spindle that attaches to the side included as well. Also came with 4 new 120 grit and 2 new 80 grit rolls of paper. Not bad for $220. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  16. 2hrs of jointing and planing and everything pretty much looks the same...ugh. up next is cutting to length and starting the mortises. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  17. I started my son's chest of drawers and night stand today. These will match the hamper I made in back in March. It will be a cherry frame with walnut sides and drawer fronts. I didn't get a pic of all the wood and me trying to figure out which pieces will come from what boards. From the 8/4 boards I figured out the best layout that would yield me the best excess material. A few cuts got a little close so hopefully I meet all of my dimensions. After layout, which took forever, I cut the pieces out on the bandsaw. I wanted to leave as few pieces as possible so that I wouldn't be wasting wood off the bat but I decided to cut each piece out. Doing this I should eliminate any surprising twist after I let these sit for a day. Wood stress usually happens when cutting thick boards so hopefully if any movement happens it occurs now and not after final dimensioning. Pic of the hamper for example. 18. Went to woodcraft this week up in Woodridge and picked up a a few rasps and a Japanese dovetail saw. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  19. I have the Bosch 12v rotory tool and it has been great. Bosch owns Dremel do all of their accessories fit. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  20. Nice functional caddies. Good job. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  21. Made a simple Wal it cross as a thank you gift. Build/milling time was probably around 1.5hrs. that included figuring out the right dimensions. The top edges are chamfered and I really like where the two pieces meet. They are connected via a half lap joint. It will be hinges using a key hole slot. It was the first time I got to use my new touch mark from my branding iron. The touch mark is an abbreviated mark of the full design. The R2 stands for my initials. 22. So what do I do? I adjust the tape measure [emoji849]. I believe it's good now. I made the holders for the nail guns. Not super happy with them but they will work. I'll round over the edges. Up next is the nail holders themselves. Still need to come up with a design for it though. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  23. I think that will work! No adjustment needed. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
  24. Third door done. I basically did a prototype for the hammers to see if I would like it or not. The top has a 1/2" piece of plywood attached. So far so good. If I do another one I'll be sure to put them at a slight upward angle. Getting things up off workbenches and into cabinets and finding a home is a very good thing. Less clutter. 25. Perfectly acceptable. Good thing you aren't here to turn it on then. 🤣 Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
