  1. Thanks for the encouragement gents. Hopefully soon I'll be doing well enough to post up some cool projects I've done. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  2. Take a look around, there might be a short evening class in your area. Mine was too short really, but gave me an opportunity to do things I couldn't have otherwise, like run a plasma cutter, try a torch outfit etc. I've already ordered me a torch set, plasma cutter is next. 3. I've been taking a 30 hour welding class just for hobby type stuff, customizing my trailers and toolboxes, repair around the house, making stuff I want. My beads are improving but I'm mostly concerned with strength, I want to be able to trust my welds. So I've been practicing at home doing this t-joint fillet weld over and over with mig, then cutting and buffing it to check out my penetration. I've finally gotten my weld from this: To this: The first picture was a couple weeks ago, the second was this week, and I just hit the same result 3 times in a row out in the garage tonight, so I'm pretty pleased with my progress. 4. I can help you on disabling the boats ignition. There's a product by Coban that I use frequently that would be perfect. It'll just need a a half dozen or so connections, but could be bypassed IF someone really knew the wiring of that particular boat. He can enable and disable it by text message, it will alert him by text also if there's any attempt to start it and/or any other electrical connection that you set up is made or broken. It will also alert him by text if the battery goes weak or if the unit itself is disconnected from the boat's electrical system. If it is somehow stolen, he can track it by GPS to it's exact location with a pretty good degree of accuracy. It's also possible for him to call the unit and hear what's going on in the boat via an onboard microphone that's easily concealed. The unit itself is quite small, and will have an external cell antenna and a GPS antenna. The GPS antenna works best if it has a direct line of sight to the sky but it will work through plastic, fiberglass and wood, just not metal. Sound expensive? It's about $35, and takes me about an hour to install plus 30-45 minutes to set everything up. I've opened this thing up, and the build quality looks pretty damn good to me. I've been using them a little less than a year but so far I have experienced 100% reliability. I believe that reviews of this product who had failures, had them due to problems with installation, using t-taps etc. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KNR2YZ4/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A42WYOX46OM98 Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  5. Sounds like you settled on the Dewalt, but I'll second the recommendation for the Bosch PS21 or PS22. The kind of work you're talking about is what I do every day, not stereos very often but in dash and under dash doing remote start and backup cameras primarily. The Dewalt might give you trouble at the weird angles you'll be working from. I've been using the same PS21 for years and I can't kill it. The clutch is precise, the control is almost surgical, the ergonomics are great. It's really a one of kind tool and ideally suited to what you're talking about doing. 6. I love Milwaukee, but Bosch is THE choice in 12 volt for me. Like others said, the compactness and light weight aren't even touched by any other maker. M12 is a great line, comprehensive, powerful etc., but they're slightly stepped down versions of 18 volt tools, not a compact line of tools. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  7. That day you need to put a couple tapcons into brick and don't have a hammer drill, you'll be kicking yourself. Do I rent a rotary hammer, hire someone, borrow from a friend, skip the project etc.? It becomes an ordeal. Buy the 996 and when that day comes you'll be excited to harness the power of a very capable drill. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  8. I love mine. Reviews claim it's unwieldy and the removable handle falls off to easily and gets lost, I haven't had that problem. It's not for impacts or any high torque application, I did break one that way. Milwaukee has a similar one that's a bit tougher for $50, and it's a true right angle. 9. I have those too, nice set and the case is well made. These Wihas are by far my must used bits, it's like they were made for what I do and the set is 7, 8, & 10mm, the vast majority of fasteners I'll turn in a work day. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0033PR4I0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 These VIMs come in a distant second, for reach. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012UT7CMM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And my go-to torx bits, US made SK. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DSSMCBG/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER And my all time favorite accessory. Doesn't come out often but saves the day every time. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0000224AW/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1462340608&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=milwaukee+right+angle+drill+attachment Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  10. Along those lines, I have had the HF SDS rotary hammer for a few years and that thing will really eat some concrete. If I have like 3/8" or smaller to do, it's Gen 2 Fuel all the way, but anything bigger I pull out the HF. I actually raced my plumber drilling through my 4" foundation with a $800 Hilti, and he poked through maybe a second before I did. Of course his Hilti was lighter, easier to handle, and will last much longer. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  11. I forgot to update this. I got some Dremel branded sheets and tried them out on the original Milwaukee block and they stuck just fine. They're too small, but at least I learned that the sandpaper that came with the OMT was the problem. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  12. When I was young and dumb I successfully used a masonry bit in a rotary only drill, a Black and Decker Wal-Mart special. I got four 3/8" holes drilled in a slab to install a safe. So theoretically this could work, but no. Just no. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk
  13. If you haven't found something yet, I think these are what you're looking for: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VHXD8I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1460611713&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=B000VHXD8I There's two of each size, one magnetic and one hollow shaft. I have them in metric and they are beautifully made, comparable to if not better quality than my Wiha set. This is also the most complete set I've seen and the case is very nice. 14. Now here's a steal on a real USA made, 60,000 lb. ductile iron Wilton and BASH hammer. $335 plus shipping. http://www.coastaltoolsupply.com/product/WIL-63200A.html Also on Amazon with a set shipping price, check to see which will come out better for you. 15. I've been using my OMT more and more for quick little sanding jobs, but have been a bit disappointed with what came with my Milwaukee OMT. The sheets don't stick firmly on the block, and vibrate loose pretty quick. What are you guys using that works well? Do I keep the Milwaukee block and get better sheets? I don't want to buy a dozen different setups before I get something that works. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337Z using Tapatalk Edit: wrong forum, should be in accessories, sorry.
