Radio shootout

Too bad I don't have any Hitachi tools but I'd love to give this radio a try. However, the Bosch radio GML 20 / GML50  is really growing on me.

That little hitachi is a cool looking radio.

In a garage shop a real stereo is the way to go. At the job site the portable ones work great.

That is a great setup for the garage. One problem for me at least in my garage,is its super dusty.

My house faces East to West. With East being the backside of the house. I almost always have the back garage door open because it leads directly to the larger patio in backyard where we grill and have a fire pit. Plus multiple hairy dogs,I could never keep mine as clean as yours is.

Wind is wierd in my neighborhood, lots of tall trees and the way houses sit. When my neighbors and I all have our flags out you can see them moving in different directions, its so wierd.  Sorry for ramble im 3 beers down now hehe.

Just blow the dust off with compressed air once a week or so. You do need to eliminate the dust because it will generate excess heat inside the unit...but they are more resilient than you'd assume.

We do work for the Hard Rock casino and their stuff goes bad all the time because of the cigarette smoke, it starts building up on the components and failures start. I can normally pick up a couple 8" dust bunnies with my hand.

I have four out door speakers because of the heat and dust factor. The receiver and other electronics are in the cabinet too. Also that is a good reason for not going with really high end stuff. All my stuff has been there for a  number of years without any issues so far. I have a 32" TV too. But yeah, dust and heat are a concern but not a lot.

Humidity is more of a concern than dust in electronics. BUT the dust will also help hold in the humidity...I don't imagine it being an issue with Mike since he's in California. In FL, I see it all the time with outdoor electronics, it literally causes rust and sometimes will even rust the traces on the PCB. We have a $5000 McIntosh in the shop that has rusted traces, basically unfixable. The customer used it in an un-air conditioned vacation house in Ecuador.

I have my old RCA surround system in the garage that gets wet, frozen, hot, cold... The sub died a while ago but the speakers and receiver work fine. Didn't helped I shoved a piece of pipe through it [emoji16]
