I am looking to Polish my aluminum canoe. I'm trying to accomplish what's shown in this video.

I've been looking at the Makita 9237C, but i'm not sure it's the right tool to do the job.

I would need to secure something like this to the spindle.

I haven't done anything like this before so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great! I was looking at Makita because most of my drills & sanders are Makita and I like teal. Open to brand suggestions. Thanks!

In order to use that polishing wheel you linked you need the proper backing plate to use it in a grinder. But it should work. Its the same type of wheel we use in the shop but ours is with a bench grinder. And get some jewelers rouge.

They make shank extenders for grinders that'll give you some more clearance between your hands and the buffing wheel otherwise kiss the skin on your hands good bye.

Is there a retailer that has buffing wheels and backing plates that you could recommend?

I ended up getting the Makita 9566CV. I'm having a hard time finding an extension that will work. Does anybody know where I could get one?

I found this one...

I'm thinking I am going to need one. I'm trying to get this done by the 16th for my BWCA trip. Thanks.

I am planning on using this for a back, but i'm not sure what to use for a lock nut. Can I use the one that came with the grinder?
