Boardgame/toy/craft armoire

Recommended Posts

We currently toy have two chest of drawers that hold all of the kids board games, coloring, and craft stuff. Both need replacing bad so my wife wanted something new. I decided on a plan from anna white for an armoire. Hopefully will have it done in a timely manner so I can get going on the hand tool cabinet. Going to be made with maple plywood and poplar. It will be stained Ebony to match another piece of furniture in the same room.

Already got most of the plywood pieces rough cut. I forgot to buy another 1/4" piece of plywood. Ugh.

Got the carcass pieces all cut out. I also was able to use the woodpecker shelf pin jig for the first time today. VERY easy to use. I was able to do one side in about 5 min. That was with clamping it down even though it says it isn't necessary. Made a few test cuts first and on I went. Router made for no tear out. c5bee8aa117f878cb3b821c03438f2e5.jpgf8a5f4d24045a64942aa7a627a69a44b.jpg3f0d5f51de6a373cbfae7acc202e4026.jpg

Got some work done today before my actual job started. I got the other case side holes routed. I then routed in a rabbet in the back to allow for the back to sit into. Finally I got the case glued and screwed together. For the top I put the pocket holes on the outside as they will be covered up with poplar. This keeps all the screws hidden. Woot!

BTW....I cannot say enough about how much I love my workbench and vise! 5b36248b7ce20704d767a3f0d9592b9b.jpg872877df2580a13272a4644ec8889ba2.jpg

I got the back piece cut, sanded, and put it. I went to my wood store today and bought some maple veneer for the plywood edges. This was iron on and I used a fast cap cutter to cut off the excess. The cutter is very slick and does a great job. I used my apron plane to get the edges flush. I also cut some of the strips needed for the "face frame" for the sides and doors. I wish I wouldnt have cut so many at one time on the bandsaw. It would have been easier to cut them into less pieces the. Joint and plane them. Then cut them on the table saw. Oh well. I'll do that for the next set. c267d983ee83383edace86b5aacb83ea.jpg327400627286e4c2bbc5e815c0bbdf17.jpgc22aa3d3771b0b9f3027b0510f21e7c0.jpg126cef9d5deb4472d58d5c1ffdf0d248.jpgefb57328ea98fa741d6323d76017d1db.jpg2ba871c322f490bce874ec73f153f1bc.jpg

Looking Good!  Woodpeckers sure has some quality products, I have a few of their offerings, and have been blown away by the high quality.

I got a lot of shop time in after church today. I jointed, planed, and cut to width all the poplar. I then made the face frames for the sides and glued/nailed them on. It's starting to look like an armoire. I have a couple of pieces in glue up right now that I need to do before I go on, I forgot to do them earlier. Happy with it so far.

P.S.A- milling takes forever! d98356700d54cec96194cb9a95bd90a6.jpgddcf931d2b157aea39c7b9675d5fceca.jpg0d18af4b448cd91e0e8e45a4950cc60d.jpgb76f7511fdf8836ea2df5fd42ae15e10.jpg

The flu has been kicking my butt this week. Since Sunday I got 3 boards on the armoire. Two top pieces and a lower piece. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the rest of the bottom completed. a3886e4d8e716384ec1279b415809b8d.jpg
