Pretend I am a 3 year old.

I have the current brushless variable speed and I love it.
I don't understand the hate towards the load sense feature.

Why is a barrel grip so important?
(be kind, i am an electrician, not a carpenter!)

Barrel grip moves your hand closer to the cutting plane so in theory it gives you better control.  Also, the reduced vertical height makes it a LOT easier to get into tight places and odd angles (have you ever tried to make a vertical or upside down cut with a D handle jig saw?).

Yeah what he said.

For me, having my hand closer to the work piece makes me more confident with the cutting.  Personally, I like  load sense. Once it activates the machine gets right into the cut.  The variable speed trigger is nice but having my hand pushing from such a height is not natural or comfortable for me.  You can essentially grip the blade and motor housing in your hand and really get into a turn while keeping while keeping the gravity low so I am less likely to tip the saw.  Really though, it is personal preference.  I would add the scribing boot you can buy for a lot of these saws makes guys that do trim work professionally more efficient when joining two pieces of crown molding together. Not a feature I need yet.

Like the "soft start" in Makita? It is an annoyance when coping. You only need couple of seconds to do a cut and soft start can end halfway or don't end at all.

Of course, this depends on type of wood and speed dial but it is a feature I can do without. I want to set a speed, trigger it and see how fast the blade oscillate at the start or before a cut.

I had that and sold it to a member here. Loved the saw, consolidating and want to get the Mafell. I miss that saw but it’ll be worth it down the road.

To me the load sensing...I can handle it fine but after however many years of being able to control output via the trigger...maybe it’s analogous to driving a manual transmission. The extra control is hard to let go of. I can adjust to losing it but even if the load-sensing power proves entirely superior I think it will take me many projects before I might come around and say I prefer the experience of it.

I’m 43 and a manual to me is still mandatory equipment for any legitimately sporty vehicle. More utilitarian vehicles of course and I relent especially in frequently congested traffic.
