What tools did you buy today?

Stopped at Lowes for some plywood and ended up buying other things.

Made in the USA Southwire Compact Wire Stripper (S1020SOL-US) and Ergo Wire Stripper (S1018SOL-US). They’re so new to my local store that they didn’t have a place for them to hang and instead just left them in boxes with the price tag on a shelf in the adjacent bay. Did I need them? No. Did I buy them? Yes. Do I care where they are made? No.

Southwire 8” Cable Ties, 11” Cable Ties, and V-Notch Wire Stripper (SVN). I was looking for the releasable cable ties but they still don’t have them. They do now stock the 11 and 14’s which is nice. For months all they have had is the 8’s.

4x Irwin 2” Spring Clamps (3 not shown), a 4 pack of 6” Irwin Quick-Grip clamps, and a bottle of Titebomd II for the plywood.

From what I gather, there is no current plan on them carrying the new ties. I was pretty bummed out to hear that.

Well that sucks. I’ve been looking all over for them and so far no one has them even though Southwire keeps posting about them. I was hopin Acme Tools or Lowes would get them since I buy from them often.

Looks like Tool Barn is now selling them but they’re special order so it takes 7-10 days for them to ship.

Remember wen I bought that drill press? Well @justinkendall surprised me with a bench top sander to match and a heavy Irwin vice for the drill press. He also got me some Kreg stuff, a Whiteside Router bit for plywood, some bulk key rings so I can make keychains out of the scrap wood I have, and a Millers Falls #8 Plane.

Most of the Xmas haul...new batteries charging, tools ready to go to their new place in the lineup. A few bits of rearranging and whatnot to get everything placed but in a couple of days it'll all be snug as bugs in a rug. Played with the router for a minute, now part of my workbench has a nice rounded edge to it. Played with the stapler too, which means there's about 20 staples in a piece of scrap wood right now. Angle-grinded part of the workbench with the brushless grinder, but haven't sanded anything yet with the sanders. "Tested" the 4Ah batteries against my slim batts, the 4Ah definitely increase the power on the tools. Can't really test the chemical sprayer unless I fill it with water and play with it in the tub...but knowing myself like I do I'm sure that'll happen sooner or later.

Also got myself a few actual toys...we were shopping for some of the kids and I came across these Hot Wheels Star Wars toys, thought they were cool as heck so I picked up a few.

Just got one myself, fantastic tool.

The temptation to keep hitting the trigger was too great, but after firing it up half a dozen times the wheel fell off. I'm putting this down to user error, I'll keep a close eye on the tool-less wheel attachment in future. Maybe I didn't tighten it up enough?

Probably. There's two ways the front "nut" goes on, depending on what type of wheel you have on there. Cut-off wheels and wheels that don't have a center spacer, the thinner wheels, you put the "nut" on with the flat side toward the wheel. Wheels with spacers or ones that are thicker, you put the "nut" on with the flat side out. Wheels that have their own nut don't require the outer "nut" but some people use it anyway as a safety precaution.

And yes, new tools always have that "I WANT TO DESTROY STUFF!!!" urge to them...

This seems to have died rather quickly, it lasted approximately six to ten minutes. I'll update when I've got new info.

(Yes, I did try a different battery.)

Continuing my tradition of using gift cards immediately after receiving them I bought an 8 piece set of Irwin Marples forstner bits from Lowe’s and an INCRA 12” T-Rule from Amazon.

I think I am done with tool purchases for the next few months, I’m going to start putting away any extra money into my garage shop conversion fund.

I meant it's dead, non-functioning, faulty. It's going back

That's a bummer for a new toy.

After watching workshop addicts video on the new ryobi brushless tools it was kind of disappointing.  The grinder, recip, and circular saws all seemed to cut out even when not pushed very hard.  I know they're more of a homeowner/diy grade of tool, maybe they'll perform better when/if they come out with their larger batteries.

Agreed, not trade-grade, but shouldn't falter on cutting a bit of mild steel. The trouble with brushless is the electronics need to be over-engineered, just "making the grade" ain't enough.

Flexvolt 414; I'm coming for you!

That certainly is concerning. I saw the Workshop Addict video, wasn't too worried about their review of the angle grinder. After seeing your post I went out into the garage and tried to bog the grinder down, didn't seem to be an issue. I put some force into grinding an old lawnmower blade, all the grinder did was throw sparks and eat metal. Gonna throw a cutoff disc on it and see how well it cuts. So far it's been a good tool for me but I've only done some random quick stuff with it. I'll have to really go nuts with it and see what happens.

Not too concerned, it's under warranty. I really want it to be a good tool though and don't want to hassle around with returning it if it turns out to be a dud
