Sweet!! Yea I can relate to ppl stealing crap. Back in 87 I had a 86 trans am, had it for about 3 months got ripped off. 1 year later my work van got ripped off in front of a police station when I went inside to pay a parking ticket!! Both true stories. Got the van back 3 days later and had a bullet hole in the door and a woman was shot in it, but she ended up being ok. Trans am was never found.
Needless to say I catch anyone stealing anything, I WILL shot them.
But back on subject, a belated happy birthday and that certainly is a beast you got there!! [emoji106]

For all of the Dewalt lovers out there like myself, Home Depot has an amazing deal on summer outdoor tools! I just bought 6 12” 20-volt chainsaws for $422! That’s a killer price and since I just bought 11.5 acres, I plan on using them to their full potential! There are several tools on sale for prices you can’t pass up

It’s great for the very humble purposes I intended it for, but people should understand that going in before buying it. It’s a very dated design, basically a carryover from a previous generation of 12V tools Makita has largely abandoned. Although the ergonomics are top-notch regardless. I very much like my Makita tools. Like most Makita stuff in my opinion this one feels superb in the hand, is easy to use one-handed, and is also light enough and shaped conveniently that I can attach it to a pole and prune elevated tree branches from my balcony. The limitation relative to other very small 12V saws is it’s rather low-powered. But for my particular uses this was the smallest and easiest to use tool for relatively light tasks I’m not often having to do, and it was only $70 when I bought it. (Strangely, the price jumped up to $90 shortly after I purchased.) Within the very narrow window of my needs it was the best product within the battery platforms I have, and yeah perhaps even across the market. Although for the kinds of tasks most people will buy a recip saw for, I would usually first direct people elsewhere, including among Makita’s numerous other recip saws.

I also second Jronman’s post above about the multitool. Much like this recip saw I bought, Makita‘s 18V OMT is a pretty dated design. It has one really good feature which is the rubber grommet at the battery interface to protect the battery and interface from all the vibration. You will see tool reviews of other companies’ OMTs where these vibrations wear batteries out and they no longer fit tools properly. Besides that, the Makita makes decent power and performs just fine overall, and while there’s nothing ergonomically wrong with it in my opinion, it isn’t remarkably compact compared to most of the market which is usually a hallmark for Makita. Another matter Makita usually excels in but didn’t here is this multitool is not significantly less “buzzy” than other brands. I believe they now only offer one 18V model that has a quick release lever which works great...but it has no light. Personally I don’t care about the light but for some tradespeople this can be a major hang up. For me it’s another “occasional-use” tool I bought because I’m already on the battery platform so it’s just convenient. Makita makes a number of top-notch tools but within their product line these two happen to both be quite a bit “long on the tooth” and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Makita releases considerably improved brushless replacements in the near future.

Fein on the other hand I have no direct experience with, but they are widely regarded as the best maker of OMTs. Which isn’t a surprise seeing as they invented them, after all. If I had to use multitools for a living they are the first I would look to demo. As I only need mine very occasionally I’m not terribly motivated to pick up an entire battery platform for just one tool.

I broke down and bought a 56 volt lawn mower. I tell you this was the most apprehensive purchase I have ever made, plus the 500.00 price tag, I was like crap I could buy a nice table saw for what I was about to spend.

Let me tell you, I am very impressed. The power the Ego has , it's incredible. I ran it through some 4 foot grass while in self propel mode and it did not even know the grass was there. Sounds like a turbo kicks in as soon as it hit the tall grass. 68c8f8ccaef0a6d3d8c0849863c08c32.jpg03ee049bffdf69afd983d7ffbf869c14.jpg88201222b86a696cf21334b4899209af.jpgd0baa53f3fd948cf19ad419482ccf78b.jpg

I picked up an Ego 56 volt weed eater with the power wind head and 2.5 ah battery. UPS delivered it this morning and I have already refilled the head twice, and recharged the battery twice. But dang that thing has some power. 448904aed3ab157424529406b433d9cc.jpgcc5100199b5d67af59e49f0ec75e3833.jpg

The lawn mower and cordless strimmer working with one battery, right? Did you try them? What about working time on one charge?

Yes, the lawn mower and weed eater both use the same battery. Yesterday when my 2.5 ah for the weed eater went dead, I slapped the 7.5 ah battery out of the lawn mower to finish up the yard.

I love my Ego stuff.  I am still having a hard time deciding between the self propelled and push mower.  I can't get rid of my non-self propelled mower because it has been so good to me.

Listen

It's like when you guy to buy a truck, do you get it in 2 Wheel drive or 4 Wheel drive.

Personal I choose the 4 Wheel drive mode ( self propelled ) because it is nice to have it when you need it. If you are powering through high grass, as I did already, squeeze the drive and walk right through a patch of 4 foot grass that hadn't been mowed all year.

I will warn you, start on slow speed as the self propelled will run a heck of a lot faster than you can fast walk.

I have the EGO non-self propelled mower, Powerload string trimmer, hedge trimmer, and backpack blower.  They're all outstanding tools that I need to use more (I wanted to cut the grass this weekend but it's raining again).  With Ego moving from Home Depot to Lowe's, I'm going to keep an eye out for the self-propelled mower.  I can use the larger battery (right now I have two 5Ah, one 2.5Ah, and three 2Ah IIRC), and keep one of the mowers at another house so I don't have to keep transporting mine.

As for tools, I've been slowing way down but I picked up the Klein heavy duty wire strippers (K12055-SEN) at Home Depot for under $17 yesterday.  They had a $199 Ridgid 3.0Ah battery starter kit for $59 but there were none in stock; besides, I probably have enough batteries to last me for awhile for Ridgid, DeWalt 12v and 20v Max (though I wouldn't mind a few more FlexVolts), M12 and M18, and Ryobi.  There are some decent Makita clearance deals but I purposefully avoid adding yet another battery system to my burgeoning collection of tools.
