  1. Thanks Dominic. Here are my responses: I assume that the batteries are just as good as others who are rated a four, however they still lack the battery indicator, which really bothers me. Also, they were VERY slow to release 4.0Ah batteries in the US, leaving users to sit with 3Ah and 1.3Ah batteries for a long time. They STILL don't have a 2Ah or 2.5Ah slim battery. The makita compact drill is light and has decent (but not great) power. But it has low RPMs, and i've yet to see a Makita plastic chuck that doesn't have excessive wobble. Do you not find their chucks below par? What is SO bad about Makita's recip saw? I know its a bit under-powered, but I've found it ok... With regard to Bosch's compact impact wrench, I'm scoring the new brushless wrench, which competes directly with Makita's & Milwaukee's dedicated BL wrenches. I counted the brushless impact/wrench hybrid in the impact driver category. http://www.boschtools.com/Products/Tools/Pages/BoschProductDetail.aspx?pid=iwbh182-01l At the moment I'm only considering changing the compact drill score, do you know of any objective reviews / comparisons for this one? I just re-watched Javier's (Tool Craze) review, who rated it highly. Maybe it deserves a 4.
  2. Yep that's why it's about people downloading and customizing for themselves. If something is unavailable for you, strike it out. If I've missed something, add it in. After you've decided what tools you really want, THEN you can figure out if they're worth the money being asked in your region...
  3. Hey all, I was thinking to myself that lots of people come here asking advice about which 18V / 20V brand they should invest in. I believe I have a better than average knowledge of the offerings of the big four, so thought I'd create a spreadsheet. The idea is, you download the spreadsheet, then: Set a weighting (1-4) on the tools/skins that you want to own and set all tools you don't care about to zero. You may also have a different opinion of which brands score 1,2,3,4 or 5 for each of the tools/skins (a jigsaw for example). The default scores put in are my opinion (and sometimes my guess), coupled with what tools are most important to me. I'd love if people wanted to argue for a different scoring in the master spreadsheet, based on proper comparisons/reviews. Since I can't upload an Excel spreadsheet here , I've put it here (no account required, but you'll need to download it to alter) - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1TDD_cT69RhJZb4bbJcR8WDiiFG_BztxTvBAwId4oxSA Hope you like it. 4. This and something like this:
  5. If you need/want the batteries, its obvious. If you don't, the only decisions left are whether selling the spare battery/charger will make the skin much cheaper, and if you can be bothered. I always can
  6. It seems like a pretty obvious thing to do doesn't it? I'd buy one for each cordless line I own for sure....
  7. that's pretty freakin dangerous in a recip saw with a blade on the back and a sharp tip!
  8. Thanks for sharing! I only wear glasses, but I NEVER take the guard off. I think I'll go look into a face guard.
  9. What I keep saying all the time!! lol
  10. woh, kornomaniac recommending a Makita? No way! The Bosch gliding saw and the Dewalt 780 seem to be the favourites. I think the 780 has more negative reviews around because it outnumbers all the others too... Having said that, Makita, Hitach, Metabo would all be great saws too. Very useful I know I would go the Bosch if I had the $$$.
  11. Have any of you ever look into the origins of chainsaws? It's pretty scary ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chainsaw#History
  12. i think most of the main brands have an 18V right angle drill. some of them even have right-angled impact drivers...
  13. Surely this was always the plan, it always looked like the obvious and smart way to do it .
  14. A regular cordless drill with hammer function is fine for 1/4" holes, or a tad bigger. After 10 No. 3/8" holes, you'll need a good rest. That's with a heavy duty premium model, not a compact like your link.
  15. yep, I've Bosch and Dewalt for a while, and have now switched the Dewalt to Milwaukee. A couple of platforms can be great (select the best / best priced tool from each). Some contractors find it annoying though, for site work.
  16. If the recipro saw is a big deal to you, go Milwaukee. If not, Makita has the better woodworking range/tools (jigsaw, planer, 5" ROS, multi-tool, biscuit joiner, brad nailer, stapler)
  17. If you're talking about GEN 2, The power difference is minimal. I'd only upgrade for runtime / speed settings, otherwise stick with it.
  18. I seriously can't believe that they expect to keep up. They STILL haven't announced or even hinted at a Brushless / better Circular Saw or Grinder.
  19. Yeah I agree with most, Milwaukee or Makita is where its at. Though I'm not sure either match Bosch or Metabo for build quality. And some of Metabo's cordless tools are still unparallelled (BL drill, grinder, 400Nm wrench). I think I'm actually gonna grab the bosch compact drill, rather than the Milwaukee. They are both brilliant, but this way I have compact drill and impact driver/wrench in one brand, and hence only need slim batteries in one brand. I've already bought the FUEL Drill, Grinder & Circular Saw with 4.0Ah batteries. Can't wait to start using them...
  20. Thanks. yeah, 2 x 4Ah batteries. I'm also gonna buy Mikes (OTT partner), compact drill with 1 x 2Ah and 1 x 4Ah batteries, so should be pretty set.
  21. that would explain it!
  22. In Australia everybody owns a Makita planer.
