Good luck with your new saw! I think you'll enjoy the Porter Cable and I second the recommendation on a new blade. It's almost like getting a newer, better saw when you first replace the stock blade.

I've got that compressor; it came as part of a nail gun kit I bought from HD. It works well, builds pressure fast, recovers quickly, but it is LOUD. When I was nailing some trim I had to leave it in the garage and run the hose into the house under the door.

So far the PC has worked just fine, no complaints, no regrets.

Oh man... I noticed earlier today that the Bosch js470eb dropped in price on Amazon, but now this m12 jigsaw deal is really tempting me. That's a fantastic price for the kit. Tough decision.

Wow, that is fantastic. Definitely makes you feel like something has been lost as we move more and more toward power tools and getting jobs done faster and cheaper. That inlay is incredible.

It's cool of them to do a giveaway every month. Last month it was a Kapex miter saw, pretty sure I didn't win... Hoping for better luck this time :-P

I learned the same bad habits about safety from watching my dad in the garage too. Then one day he cut off the end of his thumb on the table saw. No blade guard, no riving knife, no push sticks, etc. I'm gonna try damn hard not to make a mistake like that myself.

That Craftsman compressor seems to be rated at 6.8 cfm @ 40 psi. With a 33 gallon tank @ 165psi you can probably run a high-volume sprayer for a while, but you might have to stop frequently to let the tank rebuild because the compressor won't be able to supply air as fast as the gun consumes it. I'm not sure how much of an issue this would be in practice because I've never actually used one, just something to consider. For a job as large as painting your house or a fence, it might make a difference.

I've been watching a few old episodes of New Yankee Workshop and Norm often uses a mini circ like that to rip down large sheets of material. Guess he didn't have access to a track saw back then :-P Those do look like handy saws, wish Bosch would bring them to the states.

I'm scouting out some woodworking tools: chisels, planes, etc, but I don't know enough about what I need or want yet to list them out :-D

Yeah, I like that Milwaukee has such a huge array of tools in the m12 line. My only hesitation on committing to m12 right now is that I've fondled them both at the stores and prefer the ergonomics of the Bosch tools.

Top of my list right now are a compact router, jig saw, and a couple of 12v cordless tools (drill and impact mainly). Looking at the Porter Cable 450, Bosch js470eb, and either Milwaukee m12 or Bosch 12v respectively.

I might try to cope some of them as I understand that's supposed to look a bit better over time as the joints shift, but I've never done it before so it will take some practice. We've also got a handful of 135 degree angled walls in our house so not sure if I should cope or just miter those...

I will have to dig them off the wife's computer this weekend, but I should have a few somewhere. I'll post in the projects section when I find them!

Looking at them side-by-side, the DWP611 and Porter Cable 450 look identical except for the variable speed control on the DeWALT version (and yellow vs red trim color... :-D ). Seems like you might as well get the DeWALT as it's only a few dollars more. I almost bought that PC router but I think I'll go for the DWP611 now too. I do plan on eventually getting a separate, larger router to mount in a table though rather than trying to use a compact for that job.

This beauty just got delivered today, Dewalt dw715: Purchased from Lowes, and it came with a free stand (dwx725b, which had to be shipped from California and isn't here yet). Can't wait to use this for cutting baseboards after we lay in the new floor soon!
