  1. Done. If you win though, I get a ride.
  2. Awesome! Congratulations. My wife is 12 weeks pregnant with our first. I'm terrified but excited. Looking forward to a shop assist ? This was from todays ultrasound:
  3. I'm searching for an airbox off a '99-02 5vzfe right now. I want to upgrade my MAF & the box will allow for the snorkel build. hopefully I can do better then PVC, although it works I'm thinking about molding fiberglass
  4. Wiha is a great choice. They won't break the bank & stand up to heavy use. I have both ESD & regular drivers. I doubt you'll need ESD so save your $$. Everywhere I've worked use Wiha on the assembly lines.
  5. ? father-in-law told me he wants to go off-roading again this weekend. Should I go break my rig again?
  6. I think this is the vendor we bought the .50 cal gifts from: https://www.bullets2bandages.org/collections/manly-groomsmen-gifts they have stuff like six-shooter shot glasses and other manly gifts. I had the rounds engraved with their last name, branch they served in, and our wedding date. My pic won't upload-must be too big. Here's a vendor pic. I bought the regular style brass but these nickel plated ones look good. Around $100 for a set
  7. If I were to make a guess, I would say piston ring tool kit?
  8. I would love to win a Detroit locker for my '86 yota... but this is the wrong forum for that. ? I hope to see a CNC be given away on the forum some day. A lot of fine woodworking projects come to mind
  9. I'm a veteran & some of my groomsmen are vets so I decided to keep the theam. I gave everyone an engraved .50 BMG round that was modified into a bottle opener. Ill take a pic tomorrow of the one I have
  10. I was teaching s class this last semester and one of the students was the son of my mechanic. While working on a quadcopter project I taught him how to use the screw cutter feature found on electrical wire strippers. a few days before Christmas he gifted me a shirt. I gave him one of those Milwaukee combination wire strippers with the screw cutting feature. He was very excited, I love giving tool gifts to genuine tool enthusiasts.
  11. I went up to Big Bear on Saturday to do some off-road with my brother-in-law & father-in-law. It was an easy trail but very wet. some snow but mostly mud, water and ice. I haven't had a chance to properly waterproof my truck and I paid the price. The 4Runner died, and about 10 miles from any roads. Luckily I'm usually over prepared. Pulled the plugs & disassembled the intake. used the compressor to blow out evap lines and cleaned all electrical. My family enjoyed the show. I love this hobby. At one point a passer-by gave me his number and told me if I needed any parts give him a call and he will make a run. i was able to get the rig running and off the trail. Toyota's are so tough, even when you break them they run! Found a pizza place but parking was a nightmare. Luckily I was already muddy so I pulled around back to the washed out lot. Every time I shut the truck down I had to go through the ritual of resetting the ECU & convincing the rig to go closed loop. Made the 2-hour drive home! Now to clean & properly troubleshoot this rig. I'll be building a snorkel and doing waterproofing soon. Coverd my TIA sticker NASA sticker didn't collect much dirt? Must be some fancy technology in that sticker
  12. Wow. That's a crazy skill. I'm impressed. You should do a series of tools, recreate the classics. Im sure you're a hell of a lot of fun to drink with... ?
  13. CNC was my robotic inlay helper. ?
  14. Well, the box isn't perfect but my wife loved it anyway, I've learned a lot from this build and look forward to trying again. I will apply a proper finish and try to fix some of the 'mistakes'. Here's a short video of the build process. I've got better 4k footage but need to spend time in the editing room.
  15. I didn't get gift cards (I saw a few mixed in with presents but the wife snagged them all) i did get get the new portable Kreg work station! Im looking forward to playing with this thing! I was tired of getting trendy cloths for Christmas so I requested gifts that would 'help me survive the zombie apocalypse' My sister got me a survival kit that included this sweet wallet knife and a pocket multitool. my mom bought me this two pack LED Mag lights. Can never have enough Mag lights.
  16. My wife bought me the isprings 6-stage RO kit a few years back. She loves to buy me presents that make her happy. Sure does make good water for the low price. I've got a ppm monitor inline with pre & post filter.
  17. Yep, also hard to find proper end mills. I highly recommend using the v-bit method. ~$29 for the diablo 90-degree bit. I would of liked something smaller but this is the only one HD carried.
  18. I worked till about 3am. Although I'm not finished, it's in good enough shape to give her. I used a little pastwax to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. I'll use oil later and give this box a proper finish. Inside is lined with felt & includs a Rockler music ? movement. I would like to add miter splines and more engraving also. I made a video explaining the inlay concept & I'll upload later. My wife gets alerts from my YouTube uploads & she hasn't opened it yet. tried my best to wrap it. .. didn't have much energy though
  19. Thanks; she's only about 10-weeks so we didn't want to announce. However, Christmas seemed like perfect timing. I told my mom, sister, grandmother, & grandmother yesterday. Overwhelming emotional reactions. but back to the wood... Im addicted to CNC 100%. I grew-up in grandpas wood shop. He's one of those old timers who can use a chisel & hammer better/faster then me with a jig. I'm an electrical eng but I've never forgotten my love of woodworking. I have a small shop in my garage. Still no CNC but I'll build one eventually.
  20. So I didn't finish but I've made progress. I'll post more pics and video after the holidays. Merry Christmas TIA Crew. I hope all your tool dreams come true. Walnut & Bamboo mix. Bamboo was all I had. It's a bitch to work with!
  21. Good to know. I was using 1/8" to test and going fast. I'll re-evaluate when I cut from the bigger stock. I have to go to Rockler to pick up a vbit and larger stock. I always spend too much money in that place.
  22. Pics and video coming soon. I always try and step up my homemade gift game. Last year I build a box for my father-in-law with some photo transfer. This year I'm building a music box for my Wife. She is 10-weeks pregnet with our first child so I want this to be something special she can pass on. I have access to a CNC at work. (Maybe TIA will do a CNC giveaway soon? <hint>) .. Although I'v never done CNC inlay, my foolish self decided to try and build a music box with an inlay anyway. .. With only two days left I think I've figured out how to do it. Credit goes to Paul Zank and Damien Durrant The process is V-Inlay. Essentially you cut a pocket with beveled walls. The purple represents the area that is routed. I chose Purple because I wanted to get an idea what it would look like with the purple heart wood inlay and then cut the 'male' inlay with inverted bevel walls. The two pieces fit together and form a nice clean fit. ... hopefully. As far as the design, I was going to do a double inlay, purple heart and yellow heart. Using solidworks I designed the inlays and pocket. That method became too complicated for my first go so I decided to simplify things and use Vcarve software with only one inlay. I'll get fancy later. Now to decide on what to carve. here are a few designs I threw together. (No TIA logo for the Wife.. sorry guys) I can convert just about any simple-ish line drawing into an inlay, so if you have any ideas pass them along. Im not very artistic.

I do enjoy my job, although I'll never be rich working in education, I can at least order the tools I drool over. I'm currently working with the Roland MDX-40a CNC with 4th axis. I've got a small music box project with Purple Heart & Yellow Heart inlays. Hopefully I get it done before Christmas as it's my wife's gift. ? Meanwhile I'm teaching one of the students CNC basics. I've decided to document the process in both video & writing. I quickly put together this clip from today's endeavor. A more polished version will come. its a multi-part series that shows the complete process of casting a part. Everything from preparing machining wax, CNC billets, CAD design, CAM programming, milling, mold making, casting, & finishing. It should be a fun project. a sample:
