  1. Look what I just picked up, 250lbs of badass saw! I found a Harbor Freight 25% off coupon and I even brought my wife along. I figured she would add credibility. They didn't give me the full 25% but I was able to get 15% off. Saved almost $100
  2. Well I have about $800 in Home Depot gift cards burning a hole in my pocket! I'm looking for some coupons to stretch it. After work I think I will head over to HD and pick up the saw
  3. I had my eye on the Klein tool set!
  4. A bunch of Home Depot gift cards and an autographed picture of Norm Abram to hang in my workshop! I'm going to buy the Ridgid R4512 Table Saw and if I have enough left over, a Mikita MAC2400 compressor.
  5. Hope grandma gets better soon, come back and vent on the forum if you need to. We are thick skinned and non judgmental
  6. That Harold is one lucky guy! I'm sure he will enjoy and put the tools to good use. Merry Christmas everyone!
  7. So I was able to buy a Milwaukee M18 Jigsaw, had to install a dog door to justify the tool, but it was an easy job. Turns out my wife loves the tool. She was improving her raised garden beds, (she works in the bio dept at a local college). I thought I would share the pics.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys, it's not easy but its a lot of fun... Most of the time. I aced my finals!! On a separate note. I was called at 9:45pm tonight by my mother in law, she said her husband lost the cap to his feeding tube down the bathroom sink. Her husband Bob has cancer. . 4 more days and we find out if the chemo and radiation worked. It was funny though, I grabbed my tool bag and when I got there, I couldn't resist. " I heard Bob sprung a leak".. I at least got a laugh out of him. .. Damned cap was not in the trap though, even if it had been, that s*hit is nasty and deff should not be put back in use. No worries, duct tape fixes all right, ... Well.. Not really, but the finger cut from a rubber glove and some rubber bands sure does make a good feeding tube plug. I am now an experienced cancer mechanic! .. The sink leaks now, but Bob is water tight.
  9. Thanks for the plans. I'm hoping I can put it together after the holidays
  10. Count me in. I love a good jig!

Finals suck, they sucked when I was a kid... And they suck even more now that I'm a 30 something year old college student! Math... I hate you math! .. Okay, time for bed, finals in the morning.
  12. I like it! Very clean... For now.
  13. The R4512 has been out for a few years now. The only real negative I have ever heard about the saw is an alignment problem with the blade. Something about the blade getting jacked when lowering it. It's a pain but Ridgid will fix the saw, also I think the problem has been resolved but I'm just guessing. I'm going to pick one up after Christmas. I'm sitting on $350 in homedepot gift cards and expecting more for Christmas! Hopefully enough for a compressor too. I'm more an electronics/electrical guy so the saw will be more then enough for what I need. I'm starting over with my tool collection, we had to sell a cabanet shop full of woodworking tools, pluse my roiling tool chest a few years ago. It was a sad time, my grandfather lost his wife and his tool collection. A finished carpenter of 60+ years and he was forced to sell his shop for pennies. I think grandpa would like the Ridgid though.
  14. I have to check my main supply but I want to run 100 amp sub. I don't think I'll use the whole 100 but might as well plan for the future. I’ll be more active on this thread in about a week. Right now I need to learn some math, finals this week.
  15. Hello, now i know who to ask for help with my JAVA homework. It's hard to spend a few hundred for a drill & driver, but once you do... You will be happy. And remember, when you buy a tool like the Milwaukee M18 ... Your buying a tool that last a long time. I had a cheap Craftsmen drill that "got me by" for awhile, but when I picked up my Milwaukee M18 hammer drill and driver, It was so much fun to use, I found myself building more! I do odd jobs on the side, everything from CCTV installs to woodworking. I often use the money from the jobs to buy a new tool. I'm sure that once word gets out how handy you are, a friend or famly member will take advantage of your skills. Wife's seem to nag less about buying tools when the tools make money.
  16. I'm constantly inventing projects around the house to justify to my wife, why I need a new tool. A few weeks ago I installed a dog door so I could buy a Milwaukee M18 Jig Saw.
  17. A great resource for this project http://www.hammerzone.com/archives/elect/panel/sub_panel/01/overview.htm
  18. Has anyone installed a subpanel for their garage/workshop. I have an older house and bad electrical so it looks like I will be installing a subpanel. This might be a good place to post progress and project details. I’ll try my best to keep everything organized and updated. Please feel free to correct me if I provide incorrect info. This project will advance as budget allows. I’m a poor college kid (Old Man), and my GI Bill just ran out. Anyway; My main panel is on an exterior wall, very close to the garage. The install should be straight forward, install a breaker in the main to feed the sub. Mount the sub in the garage, run a conductors from the main to the sub. The first step is to figure out what size wires and breakers I need. To figure this out I need to approximate my load requirements, allowing for future-proofing. I’ll post again with the break down and more info on rating/de-rating conductors.
  19. I was using the Dewalt Miter Saw today. My wife pointed out that the lights in the house dim when using it. Looks like I will have to run a sub panel sooner then later.
  20. From what I read, Milwaukee has redesigned the M12/M18.. Or more accurately, they have found better lithium cells. The older style is the 1.5Ah & 3.0Ah. The new style is the 2.0Ah & 4.0Ah. I don't know if the battery chemistry changed between revisions but chemistry doesn't really matter much (in order to keep it simple) What you need to look for is the Ah ratting. The more Amp hours, the longer your tool can operate between charges. I will note however, the Amp-Hour method to measure a battery is flawed. Ah = current flow in amperes (I) * time in hours of discharge (t) or Ah=I*t. So without knowing the time of discharge (t), Amp-Hour is worthless. All lithium battery packs are made up of a bunch of small lithium cells (small batteries) connected together. The new 2.0 & 4.0 batteries supposedly have better cells, although OEM Milwaukee has never let me down, when it comes time to buy a new battery, I'll be buying the new 4.0Ah
  21. A track saw is great for cutting down plywood but I don't think it can match a table saws versatility. I can understand a table saw being intimidating, the truth is... A little fear is healthy. You don't want to overestimate your ability, you'll lose a finger... Or worse. I'm lucky enough to have grown up in a wood shop. I learned on my grandfathers old cabinet saw. Have you modified your Ridgid TS any? Maybe added a router wing?
  22. So I am shopping around for a table saw and inevitable my research has lead me towards the Ridgid R4512 Hybrid Table Saw. It looks to be a great table saw, for the price, and if I receive enough Home Depot gift cards this Christmas, I'll run down and buy one. Does anyone have experience with the Ridgid? My sister already gave me about $350 in HD gift cards so I'm almost there. I don't really need a portable saw, however I have a cheap Ryobi 10" table saw if needed.
  23. Thanks guys. Today I just traded a LCD Display for a dewalt miter saw. No more "Tools in Action" in high def... But I think everyone will understand.
  24. Hello everyone, I live in Orange County Ca. I'm a woodworker and electrical engineer. I'm a veteran using the post 9/11 GI Bill and work on the side installing CCTV systems and repairing audio amps (think football stadiums and concerts) My passion is electrical engineering, everything from embedded (microcontroller) to robotics. Growing up the grandson of a finished carpenter, I have a love for woodworking. I'm newly married and my wife is discovering the garage is no longer a place to park her car. ... Saving up for a new Ridgid R4512 I have mostly Milwaukee M18 hand tools and love them! Love the YouTube Tools in Action, and hoping to win the ultimate bag give away! >Nicholas
