    Purchasing on Amazon

So no one knows if buying new Ryobi tools on Amazon can be a registration problem?
  2. Yeah, there seems to be a disconnect between Ridgid and Home Depot -- both point fingers at each other when you question them. I've had LSA registration attempts rejected weeks after purchasing a tool (online.) I sent in copies of the receipts and the whole bit. Rechecked the data many times and it matched the info on the tool and the HD order receipt. Send the same thing in by slow mail and it gets registered. Don't understand -- it's like they hope you give up.

    Ridgid Hybrid Fan

... and the fact that the Ridgid and some of the other fans also run on 120vac adds to their value. I keep some of my batteries at the manufacturers recommended 50% charge when I store them for a while and use the fan to discharge them down to that level when needed.

    Purchasing on Amazon

I decided to buy into the Ryobi line since they have a lot of 18v tools that aren't available in other brands at the Ryobi prices. So I went on Amazon and found the glue gun I wanted, a charger, and two 4ah batteries (all listed as One+). However, when I went to register them at the Ryobi site, only the glue gun was recognized. Later, I found using P108 instead of P197 (listed on the serial number plate on the tool) worked. I couldn't find the charger in the Ryobi database (mine had a model number of P118.) I looked in their tool catalog and they had a picture of it with an included battery, but not as a charger by itself. So, is buying Ryobi tools on Amazon a problem? I understand it can be with Ridgid brand tools because of their Home Depot exclusive seller thing. Since I'm in the early stages of registering, I'm not sure how this will turn out, but if I can't register some of the tools, I inclined to write a low review on Amazon mentioning the "can't register warning" so others won't make the same mistake.
  5. I have most of the newer Ridgid 18v power tools with (Ridgid) 9/6/4 ah batteries, but I've also got two non-Ridgid 4 ah batteries purchased on Amazon. I use these for small jobs around the house with my drill/driver, lights (Light Canon and Panel Light), and the USB charging adapter. My impression is they seem to discharge a little quicker than the equivalent Ridgid battery (haven't tested that), but don't notice any performance issues. I wouldn't use them on higher amp tools, like my compressor or sds drill.
  6. I got the Ridgid MegaMax system -- base tool and heads: reciprocating saw head, right angle drill head, and SDS drill. These are much more powerful and solid than the JobMax line, though the JobMax is still quite handy for smaller jobs. Also picked up a 2 pack of 9ah Octane batteries from HD on a one day sale for $179.
  7. Kind of a funny story (but not to me!) I needed to do a front brake job on my old 95 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. There aren't many auto parts stores near me, so having an Amazon Prime account, I thought I'd give it a try. I ordered 2 front rotors, pad set, 2 front wheel bearings and a few more things I needed for the job. Everything was in stock -- all of it ordered under Prime -- free two day shipping when it ships (kind a a "gotcha" because while it's still free shipping, the two days only start when Amazon or the seller decide to ship it.) So, I start seeing "your xxx has shipped" appearing on my account and emails. Then I noticed they only shipped one rotor! So I checked that rotor part and it still showed in stock on Amazon. Okay, time for a chat with Amazon. See attachment amazon1.pdf (sorry it's rather long.) I received the one rotor about an hour later, so I put in a return on it and cancelled the other rotor. I ordered two more (different brand) rotors and I'm due to get them Friday, so OK, I'm a little less pissed-off. But guess what? I checked the status of the wheel bearing, and they only shipped one -- the other being "delayed", even though it still shows it's in stock! I cancelled my Prime and Kindle Unlimited. Anyone know of a good online auto parts store? amazon1.pdf
  8. Lithium batteries should be stored (over 30 days) at around 30% charge. Most all the manufacturer's manuals will state that and they ship batteries at a low charge level. The problem is, it's not that easy to do this if you aren't using your batteries quite often. It would be really nice if chargers had a "storage" button that would charge or discharge to an optional storage amount. I use my job lights to discharge batteries to store.
  9. I've got the Bosch CLPK250-181L 18v brushless 2-Tool Kit with Hammer Drill/Driver Socket Ready Impact Driver on my wish list. Purchased the Bosch JS572E jigsaw, RH228VC rotary hammer, and 1677M wormy. Though I like my old 18v Dewalt tools, I have to switch from NiCad and those Bosch brushless look like a good way to go.
