(Feb. 7, 2012) – Today, DEWALT announces the launch of its new 20 Volt MAX* Lithium Ion Fuel Gauge Battery Packs, available in 1.5 amp hours (Ah) (DCB201) and 3.0 Ah (DCB200). (Feb. 7, 2012) – Today, DEWALT announces the launch of three new 1/4-inch Impact Drivers (DCF895C2, DCF895L2 and DCF895B) that feature the company’s first-ever Cordless Brushless (BL) Motor technology, which is engineered to achieve maximum runtime. Re-building them is one thing, charging is another. If you plan on re-building them, e-moli makes the worst cell on the planet. I'd suggest anything other than e-moli.

The original stand was discontinued, and replaced. I have heard nothing about the D24000 going away. Where/who did you hear this from?

The DCD950 is XRP5 NiCd. Meaning it is the 5th generation of XRP from Dewalt. DCD970 is the XRP5 Lithium version. Like Kjones said, the DCD950 and DCD970 are identical drill's. Only difference is the battery that come's packaged with the drill. The DCD951 is XRP3 and resembles the DC988, I'm pretty sure it is a DC988.

I'm a big fan of the Porter Cable line up. The cordless version is super compact on the handle grip, which gives you a good sense of control. The quick blade change system is a no-brainer.

Those don't look like they were used gently. They are guaranteed tough, not guaranteed to go through Heck and back! Good luck finding any manufacture who would warranty a tool that look's like that. They don't crack like that on there own, those took a hefty drop or two. Those drill's have been left out in the element's as well. Corrosion build up on the magnesium casing. I can see all kind's of gunk on the motor housing. Take better care of your tools buddy, and they will take care of you. You could always take advantage of DEWALT's GRC. The GRC for the DC988 is $99. You could have them both back in brand new condition and running well for $200. Or you could throw on a new clamshell yourself in about 6 minutes. Nano base is $11.45, and NiCd base is $9.98 for the pair. The gear case that you cracked will set you back $55.

Correct, it should never come off. Make sure the loctite has a few hours to set before you touch it. I let mine rest inside the house where it was warm for 24hrs just to be safe.

What kind of loctite did you use? I used the LOCTITE THREADLOCKER RED 271.

Yes, all Dewalt 18v batteries are interchangeable with one another. You will need the newer charger though. The DW9116 that comes with your DCD950 won't charge 18v lithium batteries. You will need the DC9310 charger. The DC9310 will charge both NiCd's and Lithium in the 7.2v-18v, excluding 12v max and 20v max batteries.

I stopped in at my local Dewalt service center last week to pick up one of my drills, and they had all the boxes in, and for sale.

If they do, I got hosed! My DCD780 has a plastic sleeved Jacob's 4000 series chuck.
