  1. Thank you for clarifying, JC...when you say "twist", is that the same as spinning the chuck until it closes on the bit?...i've only used one drill before and i'm not sure if what i'm accustomed to is a ratchet style or self-tightening type. Thank you.
  2. I still don't understand the difference between a ratcheting chuck vs. a self-tightening chuck...tried googling for answers, but couldn't find a good explanation. My Dad's old drill is a DW959 and I would just spin it to lock/release the bit. I know the DC720 has a ratcheting chuck, but when at HD or Lowes, the display model appeared to tighten the same way by just spinning the chuck/collar. Where am I misunderstanding things? "Ratcheting" makes me think of how a ratchet wrench works, but both drills seem to tighten in the same manner. Thank you for your explanation!
  3. Sounds like i shouldn't get my hopes too high about seeing the 775 at HD/Lowes, then...been price comparing various online retailers for the DCK266L kit (DCD775 hammerdrill with DCF826 impact driver)...lowest I can find is $299 without tax & fs...i believe northerntool will also throw in a $25 gift card towards a future purchase... anyways, for the same $299, is the DC988IAR combo (DC988 XRP hammerdrill with DW056 impact driver) a better value? The 775 is newer, but the 988 is higher end (power, 3-sp tranny, etc.). Is it basically a trade-off of weight vs. durability/features? The 988 set also has the longer running (albeit, heavier) batteries! Thank you.
  4. i'm eager to get it, but it's not urgent...planned it as an upcoming bday gift for my Dad so i would stop borrowing his dewalt cordless drill, i'll then take his old model...my Dad's a good man, someone i, and others, can always count on...i'm willing to wait for more feedback on the 775 before i give it to someone i deeply respect. thank you for all the advice from others.
  5. think i'll wait till some 775 reviews trickle in before pulling the trigger.
  6. Why do you doubt the 775 will be carried, JC? Please excuse me, this will be my first cordless drill and I haven't paid attention to the selection before, in-store. Thank you for maintaining this site, I've gleamed a lot of useful information from it.
  7. Just got back from HD/Lowes and saw the DCD760*, but has anyone seen the DCD775* Hammer Drill version available in stores yet? Both models were announced at the same time, right? I realize the 775 is available from online retailers, but I have a 10% Lowes coupon that may make it cheaper in-store.
