  1. I have this I believe it to be 4 lb sledgehammer(Never weighed it but pretty sure that's the size) I found it on a job site and had used it a few times. Well the other day the head fell right off. It has a fiberglass handle so not like I can exactly repair it. What is the deal with Kobalt hand tools? On the page for that tool on the Lowes site it says Lifetime warranty. So is this basically like Craftsman where I can just go in store find another one and they do a simple exchange?
  2. I have a bundle tool kit from a few years ago. But the batteries that came with it are going bad and don't hold a charge long. It is DW9116. Well I just got some replacement batteries DC9096. Are they able to be charged on that charger? I want to check before I open the package up.
  3. I know the usual gun they have is a DW059 and it's listed as Heavy Duty. It is bigger than my compact version. So maybe mine is just slightly less powerful. Plus I have no idea what the lugs were torqued at so that could be an issue to. Just torque them til it clicks normally with no idea what it is set at. Never had anything come off so must be good enough. My gun is good just in case. Even if ya gotta loosen them by hand to start.
  4. So I was helping work on a buddies race car and they realized they had forgotten the cordless impact gun. Well I always bring my tools in my car just in case. Well this was the first time using it and I found it seemed to struggled to pull the lugs off. They had been torqued but it was a bit unnerving that it was struggling to do so. I think this gun has 1740 lbs of torque. I'm not sure what the lugs had been torqued at with the torque wrench. But any reason why they weren't coming off as fast as they should have been. It almost had to get a bite to get them going. Had to use the socket to loosen them by hand then use the gun. We have a bigger version of same gun. Mine juast happens to be the compact version.
  5. I come on here and there. Thanks.

    Batteries

Once a Dewalt battery starts to fail, it's pretty much useless, beyond repair? Have a couple batteries which aren't holding a charge for as long as they used to. They are a few years old. So I've been shopping for new ones. Finding best deal for the 18 volt XRP would be 2 for $119 at Home Depot. 1 alone is $89 which is crazy. Kind of limited to HD because I have $75 in gift cards. Anyone know anywhere else I can find 2 for a better price?
  7. Going to have to evaluate my charger and see what to do. I was told there is a recall on my charger. But it doesn't have any markings on it to indicate that it was fixed. The serial # does not fall in the series that was recalled, nor does it have a marking that says it was OK.
  8. The HD I went to only had single packs on that battery and it was $99 for just one. Might have to look online and have it sent to store for the 2 pack. All depends what I want to do I guess. Thankfully the tools I have will all take the same battery. Just a matter of the charger now. It has worked fine for me and nothing has blown up in having it for several years.
  9. Ok I wasn't sure because on Dewalt site it doesn't mention the 9099 battery being compatible with that impact. It mentions the 9096 batteries now. I did see they have a 9096S in Home Depot. I just want to avoid having to buy a new charger to. But upon opening package my 9099 batteries fit this impact.
  10. Is there a way to find out which newer batteries my older bundle package tools will work with? Right now working on getting a DC820B 1/2" cordless impact(tool only). Was thinking I was all set with batteries but realizing that it may not be compatible with the DC9099 batteries I have already from my bundle. Dewalt site says I need DC9096 batteries. So if I got those I'm wondering if they would work with my other tools I have. I can provide a list when I go to the garage and get it.
  11. Yeah I actually have 2 gift cards to use for Home Depot. So probably will just get that 2 pack at some point.
  12. Recall info on the DW9116 charger. So mine doesn't have a date code(201007DB) that falls in the range they mentioned. But also no sticker near it indicating it was already repaired and not a recall. Not sure what to do. Nearest factory service center is 60 miles away. There are local tool repair shops listed on the dewalt site, but not sure if they can do the repair if I needed to take it in. I haven't had any trouble with it so maybe I'm good? http://dewalt.com/product-recalls/cpsc-dewalt-industrial-tool-co-announce-recall-of-battery-chargers-dw9116.aspx 2000 - CPSC, DEWALT Industrial Tool Co. Announce Recall of Battery Chargers DW9116 Safety Announcement CPSC, DEWALT Industrial Tool Co. Announce Recall of Battery Chargers DW9116 DEWALT Recall Hotline: (888) 388-3273 CPSC Contact: Ken Giles, (301) 504-0580 Ext. 1184 CPSC, DEWALT® Industrial Tool Co. Announce Recall of Battery Chargers WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), DEWALT® Industrial Tool Co., of Baltimore, MD, is voluntarily recalling about 825,000 battery chargers (model DW9116) for repair. These chargers are for 9.6- to 18-volt batteries used with DEWALT cordless tools. Metal clips inside the chargers could come loose and stick through the chargers’ vents, possibly resulting in consumers receiving an electrical shock. DEWALT has not received any reports of injuries with these chargers. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries. The battery chargers are model number DW9116, which is written on the front and bottom of the charger housing. The chargers are black with yellow lettering. DEWALT is written on the front of the chargers. The recalled chargers have date codes from 9927EM through 9952EM and 0001EM through 0031EM located on the bottom of the charger. Chargers with a yellow or green dot sticker near the date code already have been repaired, and are not recalled.
  13. I'll have to go check that out. If a recall wonder if I can get a replacement at no cost?
  14. I had gotten a tool bundle a few years ago that came with (2) 18 volt batteries. DC9099 is the model # on the batteries. Charger is DW9116. Well one of them seems to not be holding a charge for too long anymore. If I was to replace it with an 18 volt XRP would it still work with the tools and charger I have. I don't have the model #s offhand for the tools. I do know if I try to search them on any store site like Home Depot they don't come up anymore. But just want to make sure before I go out and buy something that I can't return for some reason or another.
