Both of my Dewalt nicd batteries started doing the rapid error flash at the same time (i.e one displayed it pulled it off and the other did the same) when they had previously been working perfectly. Is there a way to check whether it is the batteries or the charger, without having to find another battery to try out the charger. My colleagues all use HILTI so I cant easily check it that way

I have recently bought a new DCD970 to replace my old compact model. It is a significant improvement apart from the fact that if the chuck hits the end bumper when being opened to its maximum size, it sticks and then makes a ratcheting sound until it is closed to its smallest size. I was told that they are sometimes under lubricated from the factory and that spraying some WD40 down the centre of the clutch should fix the problem. However the problem has persisted. Does anyone have an Idea on how to fix this issue?
