  1. Hey everyone, I am starting to toy with the idea of a cordless circular saw to add to my kit. I currently have a brushed 4 piece kit with sawsall, light, hammer drill and impact. I would like to get a bare tool circular saw, and cant decide between the brushed, and the fuel. I know the benefits of the fuel tool, but are they really worth the extra 130 bucks? I would love to hear thoughts from people who have used either one, and if you have had experience with both, even better! Cheers
  2. hey everyone! I am slowly building up my luthier tools for guitar building and repair. I would really like to keep them separate from my other tools, so a new tool box is in order. I would like to try to build one. I think I would like something with drawers.. any suggestions? if you don't have any plans, but do have a good pic thatll be very helpful to me too! cheers!
  3. Did that drill bit set come from Canadian tire?
  4. I Really like this idea. I'd love to try that myself. I just need a bigger tool box... hmmmm
  5. I remember Canadian tire had a kit like that by hitatchi 5 or 6 years back.. if I can recall, it had poor reviews.
  6. Nice Job! how's that porter cable pancake compressor? is it good for pro use, or is it more aimed to DIY'ers?
  7. I currently drive an 02 s10 4x4. been one hell of a truck and hasn't left me stranded yet *knock on wood* but its getting old and the mileage is fairly high too. I don't intended to buy brand new. I can see its advantages but I wont be in the position to go that route any time soon. As far as leasing, I don't see that being the ideal way for me to go either. I have lots of time to research and decide. I test drove an 07 Sierra Z71. great truck, with low miles. much more features than I could ever want and need. the finances didn't quite add up so I walked away from it. I now know staying away from a jeep would be ideal for me. I don't want to drive an unreliable piece of crap again haha
  8. Well that's all I needed... truck it is! Lol. Jeeps are damn cool. Perhaps one day I'll have one as a secondary vehicle.. But when I can afford a second vehicle I think something with more horsepower would be in order.. I've seen the new colorados and canyons. Nice trucks for sure! That's all I really need and more, however in Canada You can get a better deal on a new full size gm.. Having said that I'm not in the position to buy brand new. I could get a jeep wrangler sport for about 23000. I was peaking at colorados and to get only the options I consider a necessity I'd be looking at near 40k. At 20 years old that's too steep for me. The Toyota tacoma is a great truck, I have a neighbour and a friend who own one and they love their trucks. My only gripe is Toyota is a Japanese company. Not saying they don't make a solid vehicle, but I like to buy things domestic where I can. We do have a Toyota plant I. My home town and were very fortunate for all the jobs... But I am still not sold. Plus parts for maintenance seem to be pricier for an Import which isn't so nice. I think a truck really is the best vehicle for me but the whole 4x4 in the winter and convertible in the summer is very tempting haha. Thanks for everyones input!
  9. Hey guys, Im researching vehicles for my next purchase (which is hopefully in the more distant future- but not too far at the same time) I'm currently waiting for my current little truck to die, but it just keeps going! haha, gotta love chevs. Anyway, I am not a big car guy. Ideally I would like to get a truck, but they're pretty pricey, and I'm not sure I can justify the cost for the amount I would actually be using it as a truck. I do love the ability to haul sheets of plywood, and lengths of lumber but I really don't do it very often, so I'm kinda leaning towards a jeep wrangler.. any thoughts? Any owners/ previous owners that can give me their input? I think I'm the right type of person for a jeep, but I am not 100% sure a jeep is right for me. I suppose the only real requirement I have is I can fit my small set of tools for work- which will be easy.. and it HAS to fit my goalie equipment.. Im looking at 2010 plus.. just a 2 door model. preferably with A/C. my trucks A/C is broken and summers a nightmare, and now the power window switch is screwed up! Sorry for the lengthy post. looking forward to the input! Cheers
  10. yeah totally... to help him justify it
  11. Hardware is a huge money maker here for the building centers when you factor hinges, drawer pulls etc through your kitchen and bathrooms. the mark up is quite substantial.
  12. I have been heavily considering getting a cordless circ saw. I am glad that I found this thread. I think that I will hold off for this one
  13. Hey everyone. Sorry I've taken awhile to post back on here. I appreciate everyone's input, and I have arrived at a decision. I will be pursuing a career as a carpenter. I currently work in a lumber yard so I have been networking with the contractors. I've gotten a few leads thus far, and I've got a meeting next week with a small company. Both are really friendly guys and I'm looking forward to it. I'll let you know how it goes Thanks again, and cheers!
  14. In my opinion spending the money on insulated pliers will be a waste of your money. You'll likely never come across the need for them. Most electricians carry non-insulated because that's all they need. Just my two cents though. Cheers
  15. As far as able to commit, and "take the heat" i have no doubt i can deal with both. For the record, my journeyman was fired shortly after I left because of his attitude. He was the problem, not me. We hada. Second journeyman whom I worked with perfectly and we had zero issues, unfortunately he moved on to another company I'm curious though.. Is there much money to be made as a carpenter? I plan to regardless of the trade to own my own business. It seems like if it's a good economy and depending on what you specialize in you're going to be busy and raking in the customers, but if there's a poor economy is it difficult to make it worK?
  16. Hey everyone. I am hoping to get some advice on a career path to take. long story short... Out of highschool I started an electrician apprenticeship which was a long term goal of mine. I did a co-op placement in highschool and I loved every minute of it. Once I got into it as a career, it wasn't so great. I had a lot of issues with the journeyman I worked with and about 8 months later I quit because I wanted to pursue a career as a police officer. I just finished my first year of schooling and have decided that I definitely want to do a trade over anything else. and well, there are two trades that appeal to me.. One Is carpenter. I love building things and feel like this would be a good trade for me. Now, after being out of the trade for a year, I am also reconsidering a career as an electrician. I am wondering If I left just because of my journeyman not for the reasons I thought. I am 19, and will be 20 in a couple months so I have lots of time to figure out what I want to do for sure. Here's where I need your help. what are the pro's and con's to each trade? I believe electricians pay is slightly better, and I think that the work is abundant. where as carpenters work is hugely dependant on the economy? Anyone think I left because of the journeyman? I know that at the end of the day its my life, and my choice.. but I would appreaciate any kind of advice I can receive here because I honestly am unsure of the way to go.. Thanks everyone, Michael
  17. Thanks red, and regopit. Yes it is a solid body. It hasn't even been weight relieved like most les Paul's. It's a heavy bugger.. Which is why I believe it has such a great tone to it.
  18. I have the Kuny's electrician tool belt which looks identical to the dewalt.. If I am not mistake Kuny's makes at least a portion of the dewalt bags and belts. I personally love my kuny's belt. I would buy another in a heart beat. its comfy, and offers great organization for your tools. the drill holster is a nice feature too..
  19. I wired just the one pickup straight to the jack just because I couldn't wait to play it, which is why it's taking so long to completely finish it. To be honest I think it sounds pretty killer. The electronics in it are very cheap but it sustains for days. I plan to upgrade the pickups and I think it'll make a great improvement. Sure I sound biased, but it truly am impressed by the sound. Especially for my first guitar build
  20. No I have not. I haven't even heard of them to be honest. I will have to look into them! most of those parts on that guitar came from a donor guitar which the neck came from, or parts that I already had left over from upgrades. The tail piece came from Warmoth
  21. Hey everyone, first time post here. heres my project I have been working on slowly for the last few months. its nearly done.. Body is made from mahogany, and maple. I did all the work to it myself, aside from the neck. that I did buy.. Hope you enjoy it. Cheers!
