  1. It's a good purchase.  I got mine with a 2.0 and 4.0 battery for $99.  The drill has amazing torque on speed 2 even.  I do  believe that the torque specs are a little inflated though but the tools are pretty powerful still.

  2. Like a lot of the guys said, it depends on what tools you're looking for or need.  For corded tools, I usually just go for the best available in my budget range.  I own a Dewalt jobsite saw and I love it! I don't remember the model number at the moment but I love Dewalt's rip fences, they guarantee a straight cut every time.  For Miter Saws, all those brands make great ones but I think I would give Bosch a slight nod.  Milwaukee's king of sawzalls of course and they all make good circular saws.  I believe Milwaukee's got the best cordless line right now and it's constantly growing or improving on older tools.  Ridgid has the best price and their new X5 stuff look really impressive but I can't comment on whether they would last in a professional setting.  Bosch and Dewalt have solid lineups to but I really think that if you can afford the top end Milwaukee stuff then that's what I would go for.

  3. Sorry to hear about the kiddos John it hurts me to hear about things like that especially when it involves children... Here we will help u out bro when ur feeling a lil stressed just come and chill out on the forum somebody's always here especially now that the forums is super busy!! Welcome aboard!!

Thanks Big Mike.  I'm definitely liking the forum.  Though it's not working on a project or anything it's nice to stay in contact with the community and everyone here is a big help!

  4. I am sorry to hear about your kids, I've heard that autism is at an all time high lately, were not exactly sure why, hopefully the scientists will figure it out, then offer up a cure. In the meantime, talking tools should help you to releave some stress, buying tools should deffinetly releave stress lol. Great to have you here and welcome to the crew!

Thanks! You are correct, it's funny but when I get really stressed, nothing feels better than walking into a local tool store and "looking" around at deals.

  5. I honestly think you can't go wrong with either one of those battery platforms.  Milwaukee's got a huge line and the best saws around but you pay the premium to get it.  All the reviews I've seen on the Ridgid X5's really show that they can compete with top brands and I think would be enough for any homeowner or DIY'er.  If money isn't an issue though I would venture into the vast lineup of Milwaukee or even their FUEL lineup but if your on a budget, you can pretty much grab the Ridgid X5 set for about $400 not including a jigsaw.

  6. Hey guys, my name is John.  I am new to the Forum but familiar with T.I.A.  I am 27 years old and a father of 3 amazing kiddos. I enjoy woodworking and pretty much anything that gives me an excuse to pull out my power tools!  I also love reading and watching tool reviews and really just seeing new tool innovation.  Lately I haven't been able to be as active with projects and woodworking due to finding out that all my kids are on the Autism Spectrum. But being able to catch new videos from T.I.A and watching them with my oldest daughter makes up for those things.  Anyway, I was browsing and definitely love the community here, everybody seems in good spirits and ready to help with one thing or another.  Looking forward to becoming more active here!
