  1. I've heard nothing but good from everything socket at HF, including their ratchets. The professional line is specifically commonly used with good results(I hear).

I have some of their pliers and they're great for the price. You can tell they're cheap because of the finishing but the teeth are fine, they close properly...the cutters on them suck but there are better tools to use than needle nose pliers to cut a wire. Their micro flush cutter is the only cutting item from HF I'd recommend, it's extremely sharp. It's even sharper than my replacement(after someone tried to cut what I assume was a small nail, UGH) that are made in Italy.

Their screwdrivers are also hard to beat for the price, they're cheap enough it doesn't matter if they get lost or damaged.

I've also heard their drill bits are pretty good but I only have experience with their left handed drill bits and I've only used those once.

  2. Yeah good idea, when we needed to snake a drain a couple months ago none of our local HD' had them for rent sadly so we had to get a plumber out.  i never knew so much dog hair and such got on our clothes. one of our dogs is a German shepard/Husky mix,she sheds an ungodly amount of hair The stuff gets everywhere,it just sticks to you when she walks by. Have to brush her out at least a couple times a week. Also if your wifeys have crazy long hair like mine does, that stuff gets everywhere too hehe.

I have a beagle(sheds like crazy) and I'm half spanish so I have thick hair and I have a full beard...I have to snake my drains about once a year, haha.

  3. They have a few things that are good values but easily twice as many items that are more hassle than the savings are worth. I was thinking of buying some of those Japanese razors that Dan and Eric made a video about, the price is pretty reasonable and I've had good luck with Japanese tools.

  4. If its from your washer more than likely its a hair clog or something similar,Your best option is too snake it. A manual snake most likely isnt big enough since they are usually only around 1/4 diameter, you need a karger diamater snake to plow through it.  Dont use things like Drano its pretty much a waste of money. Call a plumber with a real snake and call it done,if its one of your lil ones socks in the pipe I suggest making it so that cant happen again. Drain strainer or something like that.

I'd rent the snake from HD before I called a plumber. I forget what the tip is called but it's pointy, use that...it will clear ANYTHING. You'll probably save at least $100 by doing it yourself, probably more depending on the plumber's rates.

  5. Even during a hurricane I have never seen this much flooding, you guys had catfish in the streets if I remember correctly right?

Yeah, that clip of someone catching a fish on a sidewalk was literally one street away from where I live. Same spot they got the guy that busted his ass on the bike because the water covered up the curb

    Here's the fish video:

Not a terrible deal, might be worth a pick up for the blower, trimmer and vac with a few batteries. A know a couple people with the trimmer and they like it.

I have a B&D trimmer and I can confirm it is very good. It's not gas powered...but for a 20V, it's about as good as it gets. It's can also take a beating. I think I paid $100 for it and to batteries, so this is a good deal.

  7. So I tried both Lowes and a harbor freight coupons today at my local HD. No luck getting them to accept either. They said they may honour a Lowes coupon if it's pre printed, but not an electronic coupon that I print out. I haven't actually seen a pre printed cotton in ages. Anyone run into this before and have any strategies or sources for actual printed coupons?

I think you can get one of the Lowe's "Moving coupons" from the Post Office.

  8. Felo makes some really nice stuff, their screwdrivers are awesome.  I have some Swiss made precision tools, they are so nice and smooth to use.

I bought one of the Felo screwdrivers, think I'm going to buy the rest of the set this month...they're fantastic. I don't know why more people don't talk about Felo, everyone is caught up on Wera and Wiha.

I might have to look at those PB Swiss precision, I like the look of the handles. I've been using a Stanley set buy they're starting to get worn. Also been looking at the Wiha set in the canvas roll.

  9. Wow, that hurts... tools you bought when I was eight years out of high school are oldies? LOL

Then you're really going to feel bad when I post my "Oldies" tools that I bought in high school from 2001/2002, haha ;)

  10. You can actually see the quality difference through the packaging. I previously avoided Dewalt bits because I saw the poor quality of the machining on the Flex Torq. I'm starting to like Felo quite a bit right now, not just their bits...all of the items I have bought from Felo is very high quality. Their larger bits are a bit pricey though.

  11. That sucks man, I hate thiefs. It's great that you still have some of the stuff, it's a shame Craftsman has fallen like it has...I'm hoping that when Sears/Kmart finally croaks that they sell off the Craftsman name to a company that wants to restore it to what it once was.

  12. Project of the day trying to organize my post Black Friday pick ups into my boxes

No big deal, it's just stuff currently taking up 14 feet of counter space, LOL

I'm soo glad I went with small hand tool upgrades or testing out new brands with my Black Friday! No tetris work for me!

  13. The more bits I use the more I find that Dewalt, Bosch and other big name, easy to find brands are just serviceable bits. The Europeans and even some high quality Taiwan bits are on a whole different level of quality and live a longer life...though they are more expensive. I'm sure the US-made bits are also very good but they're even more expensive.

Though in the case of these: http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-phillips-contractor-insert-bit-2-30-piece-p/72522.htmcurrently they're actually cheaper than the Dewalt Maxfit and both are impact rated. Though Wiha has this guy which is significantly more expensive: http://www.kctoolco.com/wiha-phillips-terminator-impact-bit-2-x-29mm-2pk-p/76802.htm (If you plan on ordering some to try out, shipping to me for something like this plus some add-ons is about $5-6, free shipping at $50)

I'm currently waiting on my Swiss bits to show up...but these are expensive as hell.

  14. I bet you're thinking the same thing I do when looking back at the tools I bought in high school...Damn, I wish I had bought a lot more because prices for the same quality tools have gone up 500% or more. Thanks for sharing :)

  15. Thanks for the analysis, that helps a lot. I'm tempted to pick up a set of the strike cap felo's to see how they are. The wera's I ordered have the hex shank with the nut for wrench to put on but are not the chisel drivers. How do you compare the wittes? They were my on my list as well but were more expensive.

My pleasure, I love to offer any sort of help I can, it's not like we can go try them at Home Depot!

The Wittes are my favorite screwdrivers. They're not has hard as the Weras but the material for grip is going to be a love it or hate it thing. I love it but I also end up cleaning it quite a bit because it attracts dirt. The Witte pictured there is my second PH2, I just bought it so I can have an extra...the Tekton USA and the Snap-On(and Klein not pictured) are older but look new because the Wittes get all of the use since I bought them.

What I did with the Wittes is made my own set. I used Sears' SYW points to get the hex bolster phillips, I paid less than $5 out of pocket for the PH1 and two PH2s combined. Then I bought the hex bolster slotted screwdrivers on eBay for around $10-12 each. I had to use eBay because Sears doesn't have the hex maxxpro plus in slotted. This also allowed me to try before I commited to buying the whole set.

The one downside to the Witte screwdrivers is that they are not marked on the top of the screwdriver. I ended up scuffing and using an etching primer to make a "-" on the slotted screwdrivers, I can tell the size by the handle size. That is holding up very well and solved that issue, seems like a pretty big oversight in what is a high quality screwdriver. They're the only screwdrivers I have that aren't marked on the top. The Felo does lack size but is marked with the tip type, Wera, Snap-On, Tekton and Klein have size and tip type.

  16. You might really like the Weras, I'm playing around with the two now and despite the Felo being a little slimmer the Wera actually feels smaller. The higher raised rib on the middle(between the connected ovals of green) fall between your fingers so it doesn't feel all that large. It actually feels closer to the size of the Craftsman acetate screwdrivers. I have rather large hands(Size XL gloves, my index finger is as long as the shank of these screwdrivers) and the screwdriver falls in my fingers, it doesn't really sit in my palm...it's hard to say whether I like that or not, it's just different. They're actually pretty usual porportions, I believe the Craftsman pro screwdrivers are larger than these Wera. I keep flip flopping between whether I like the Weras or not but I definitely like the tips.
