  1. okay so I took the chance and ordered it. I'm actually very pleased with this speaker. First off, the sound. I will compare it to my bose soundlink. It is similar, but the bose will sound a lot fuller and richer. The makita still gives a great sound, and actually better than I expected. The volume is pretty good too. I would say my bose soundlink get a little louder but not by too much. I really like the small portability of the speaker and of course and the fact that it uses the same battery, makes it much more convenient than using my bose (which when it was dying, I had to find a plug close by to where im working to charge.) I You could maybe find better sounding outdoor/rugged speakers in a similar price range that should hold up pretty well but I'm very happy with this option.
  2. they really should have included the 18v brushless in that test.
  3. So I managed to pick up the brushless 18v. I wasn't even at the store for that and happen to see it just there. Apparently they just got it. I ended up getting some 5ah batteries too. I've only had 3ah batteries. I tried the brushless recip saw and also my x2 circular saw with the new batteries. They definitely both got a boost from using 5ah vs 3ah. As for performance... I'm happy with it. I picked up also the small recip saw (djr183z) that is like really small. I need to cut through some old galvanized plumbing pipes in cramped spaces. The brushless recip breezes through it. The small one however really couldn't cut it. Which I am disappointed in because I got it to get in tight spaces. Still I'll try it again as I've got more left to do. 2x4 are very quick with the brushless and not worth trying with the drj183. I found it does work well for cutting old cement drywall though on demo sections. ( of course this kills the blade). Also have to cut a cast iron stack so I think that will be a very good test for it. I've used the milwaukee non fuel sawzall and without being able to compare them side to side, I feel like the new makita brushless is more powerful (duh..) I'm very happy with the ergonomics. The light at the end is great. the shoe adjustment works well and it's really comfortable in the hands, I don't find it heavy to work with. While i'm here I'll just say I also bought a few months ago the brushless vacuum dcl500z. I hate it. don't get it. It's overpriced and sucks in a bad way. I'd return it but I threw out the box and it was ordered by mail. Also picked up the x2 rotary hammer few months ago too. I like it. Work well, not the lightest tool. I should probably try with the 5ah...
  4. I ended up getting the x2 rotary hammer. It's not great on chiseling but it drills holes really well. I was on the fence about it. With everything going brushless these days, I have to admit that i'd rather put my money on something that is newer gen. Same thing with the recip saw, i'm holding out for now and using the ol' plug in one till the bl 18v comes out.

    wish list

so milwaukee just released a big teaser. If makita you are listening. I'd love the cordless miter saw, if it beveled both sides! a collated attachment for the drywall screwgun an updated cordless rotary hammer a brushless multitool and release the new recip saw already. thanks.
  6. any news???! I'm getting impatient. Dwain, any chance you're going to make a head to head?
  7. just wanted to chime back to say that i'll be sticking with blue. There was a pretty interesting trade in offer at a local tool store promoting milwaukee tools. I went to my hd to check out the red. but had to admit that I prefered the makita grips. Saw a review recently that pitted the cordless planers and makita did pretty good, so hopefully that is a good omen for the brushless recip saw that i'm still waiting on.
  8. thanks kornomaniac, I didn't know there were different trimmers. that could have been it, i'll have to double check. Certainly I am eager to see how the new bl recip saw turns out.
  9. Yeah i deleted the link. Completely understand. Glad to see the quick replies.
  10. it was just an example of a comparison test. I didn't feel like linking all the different tests and comparison videos and articles i've watched. (it's a hobby)
  11. I made an account just to rant and maybe get some positive news to my viewpoint. Over time i've been investing in the makita 18v line. Got a hammer/drill, impact, the 2x circular saw and a few plug in tools including the 10 dual slide miter saw Although makita has been serving me well enough, i took a chance by getting some extra 3amp/hr batteries I got on a deal on, in the hopes of picking up the newer brushless tools to come. Namely the brushless reciprocating for starters. But I'm consistently surprised at how often makita seems to fall short of really making a leading tool. Just finished an article comparing cordless trimmers. Makita's trimmer falls quite at the bottom. the 18v fuel circular saw offers is beaten by only a hair in performance to the 2x makita circular saw. (that's 1 battery doing the same as 2 makitas) the rotary hammer, again x2 and still just doesn't shine (which btw outperforms the newer 18v brushless rotary hammer) Milwaukee beats it again with just 1 battery. Frankly i didn't switch to red because sure, blue is a bit cheaper and for my needs its still getting the job done, but why should I keep spending comparatively similar on makita tools that I think don't reach the potential they should be. I've been eyeing the autofeed screwdriver too, but bosch came out with something that just performs better and is lighter. There's already a few tools I returned because I couldn't justify the price for the performance. I got my batteries. Now Makita, just make some brushless tools that rock and don't "just get by". thoughts?
