LOL, I understood what he said as soon as he said it.  The old "misc bucket".  That was my daughters duty as well.  Dump the bucket and sort through and find what you want. Then have the kid put it back.

    Makes sense to me  :)

    Exactly...

Yeah, but every time I struggle and I'm not happy with my work. I say there is some craftsman out there that used to do all this with just hand tools.

Everytime I look for woodworking tools on CL another cabinet shop is going out of business.

  3. The person I bought my Powermatic jointer from was a hobbyist woodworker.  He was replacing the Powermatic with a Felder planer jointer combo.  They look like beautiful machines but I have never run one.

There is a guy by me selling some old Oliver iron.  The machines look like they are in great condition. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/tls/5976206321.html

  4. I cut and fitted a piece of live edge wood in a friends house today. I still need to add the nakashima bow tie over the crack and cut the plugs for the screw holes etc. He will do all the polyurethane work.  All the cutting and sanding was done in his living room. I used a festool track saw and sanders connected to a festool vacuum. He also chased the track saw as I cut with a Ridgid shop vac.  It was virtually all dust free, and cuts were laser straight no way could I have done that in using Milwaukee or Dewalt etc tools.

Other wise we would have had to carry it outside multiple time to make cuts. It was so nice to have the work piece on saw horses a foot away from where we were installing it,

  5. We use Amana blades for cutting Acrylic and Lexan  on table saws and chop saws. https://www.amanatool.com/products/saw-blades/non-ferrous-saw-blades.html

I cut a bunch of 1in acrylic recently with a festool track saw, it was then finished by our CNC dept. The Track saw cuts were as straight as can be though. The sheets were 6x8, so I was cutting them to fit onto the CNC machines for the circular shape they needed for the final cuts.

I'm not familiar with HDPE though. A non ferrous blade should do the trick, just watch for heat build up.

I don't think I miss having a tool box like that, reminds me too much of my time in the auto shop ha

My dad was a plumber, I think I never got into it because I hated when he would just dump 5 gallon pails of fittings on the floor and it was my job to pick them all up. :) I was cutting cast iron, threading black pipe and cutting and cleaning copper by around 12 years old. Glad I was around in the lead and oakum days.  I drove the plumber nuts when I renovated my house and threw him off the job. They were not used to a home owner that actually knew what they were talking about. I wrote up a 35 page document with all their FU's

How do you like those vice grips? I recently picked up 2 pairs of the black and yellow Stanleys.  I bought a pair of Milwaukee but took them back as I pinched my finger the first time using them. :)

  8. Question on the Plywood.... I couple of weeks ago I bought plywood at HD to build closet shelves for a friend. It was the same as you are using with only about 5 layers. I picked at it with a knife a bit as I have seen MDF sandwiched in layers on occasion, but that was not the case here.

The finished plywood we get at work is made in China and has double the layers, but there are often small voids in the layers.  Then there is 5x5 Baltic Birch which is absolutely flawless.

Do you have any opinion on the number of layers and strength?
