  1. If the technology is already in the tool and they're just giving the user the ability to change the settings I don't see it as a problem. I can see the benefits of being able to match the tool with the task at hand. That being said I'm not going to pay a premium for it, especially when current models are more than capable.

    SCORE!

I have a similar box, but the only score comes from trading them in to get $100 off milwaukee tools haha.
  3. Since we bought a dw872 14" cold cut chop saw about 8 years ago the band saw collects dust in the corner. Depending on your needs I would at least take a look at one. It gives a much faster cleaner cut than a band saw. Cut capacity is one area the band saw might beat it but I would say anything up to 4" material isn't a problem. But you can look up the exact specs. The other thing is blades are pretty spendy like $100 a blade but in our shop where they're used pretty heavily we still only go through a couple a year. We also use milwaukee steel circular saws regularly and its truly amazing how both these saws cut through steel with such ease. One difference between your fuel and circ saw that's designed for steel is that it has a much better guard that helps with the shrapnel. Now if dewalt would just come out with a flexvolt in either variation, preferably a 8" steel circ saw though.

I'd say the "BAD" on the charger doesn't look very promising but if you know what you're doing with rebuilding you might have something.
  5. Found this one as well. We have to be getting close to it being released.
  6. Doesn't show much but it's the first video I've seen.
  7. I would agree that the flexvolt grinder with a 2.0/6.0 battery gives similar run time to a fuel on a 5.0. It really depends on what you're doing but yea if you're doing constant grinding you're going to burn through them fast.
  8. Yep, a 20v brushless grinder and compact impact wrench is all it would take to make me happy haha.
  9. I get that some high demand tools require more power and run time than 18v battery can provide. In those situations I can justify a second battery platform like flexvolt. My biggest complaint is the missing brushless tools in the 20v line though. On our work trucks we carry 10 batteries consisting of 4.0 and 5.0. With crews of 2-4 people those batteries run impact wrenches and drivers, grinders, drills, and recip. Saws. Although the flexvolt grinder might be more capable it requires a set of batteries just for that tool and for a grinder it's nice to be able to cycle at least 3 batteries. I personally prefer the fuel grinder even if it isnt as powerful because it works on the same battery platform. I bought the flexvolt to be a shop grinder. At the welding table I already have a welding cord, plasma cutting cord, and two ground cords. So it was a way to get rid of the 5th cord. In the shop I don't care as much about compatibility because I'm closer to a charger and don't have to worry about storage space like you do on a service truck.
  10. I'm sure dewalts offerings for wood working and carpentry have been great recently but they definitely have their cracks. I'm in ag construction where we do steel and grain bin erecting as well as metal fab. We had been exclusively dewalt for 15 years but have started switching over to milwaukee the last 3 years. My main tool is a 1/2 compact impact wrench and a close second would be a cordless grinder. Two tools that I think really benefit from being brushless yet dewalt still doesn't have them. I did buy a flexvolt grinder which is a nice tool but it's really like having another battery platform and doesn't work as a system with 20v max tools.
  11. Alright milwaukee, it's early February, where do I get my 2860 impact wrench haha. Does anyone know if they've been released anywhere? I see on the HD site they have user reviews, I assume they're early release people because you still can't order them online. Acme says you can pre order but estimates ship date isn't until the 22nd. I'd be more than happy to pre order if it meant getting it sooner but I don't want to pre order at the wrong place and end up having to wait longer.
  12. I just got a surge and have to say I'm really impressed with just how quiet they are. I know all the youtube videos show that it's quieter on a meter but in the videos you really don't hear the difference like you do in person. I've used it very little but with a 3" deck screw and a #10 self tapper it matches performance with a 2753. I also find the self tapper mode to be similar to the 2753 which for my applications (16ga w/#10x3/4") isn't very useful.
  13. Some new toys came in the mail today. Drywall screwgun 2866 and surge impact driver 2760.
  14. I know it's frustrating for my tool dealer. They're a smaller chain of stores but a certified dewalt dealer and repair shop. At Christmas when I wanted a flexvolt grinder they weren't able to even order me one but I could go to 2 other big box stores in town and pick one up off the shelf. My dealer does a good job of taking care of our companies tool needs and repairs but this kind of stuff leaves their hands tied.
  15. Yea I only have milwaukee, dewalt, and bosch cordless so until now bosch was my only option. I hade debated a m12 rotary tool too but for what I need it for I just wasn't sure how it would perform. They aren't a tool I would use everyday but sometimes I have to grind a weld that a regular grinder just can't reach. Usually a square corner that a 4" round disc can't get in.
  16. As I was dragging out the old air hose today to get that last spot my fuel grinder couldn't, I was thinking I wish milwaukee would make a cordless die grinder. While I've considered a bosch cordless die grinder my tools and batteries are limited in that line up and they aren't my everyday tools. I'm going to be broke come February between this and the new mid torque impact wrench. Hopefully it's available in a bare tool.
  17. Yea at first I didn't want to take a utility knife to it being that its brand new but it's in a spot you can't see and after a month of use it'll have plenty of scratches and dents. It is for work after all.
  18. Just got a dck299p2 combo kit and open it up to find that the 887 impact isn't assembled right. Where the plastic housing meets the metal, the plastic wasn't seated right and it was tightened up there. There was a small tab on the plastic that I actually had to cut off to get it to snap together right. I'm not sure if it was a manufacturing flaw or a bit of damage from tightening it without it being in the proper spot. It wasn't a big deal. I know I could have just returned it but I was able to fix it by just loosening up half the screws and not actually splitting the case. I know in manufacturing this kind of stuff is going to happen, but it just kind of shows assembled in the USA doesn't always make it better. I'm more of a milwaukee guy and this was a kit for one of our work trucks so I had to stir the pot a little.
  19. I have a 2753 and working with 14ga-18ga steel I find that the self tapping mode with a #10 screw wants to slow down and impact before it drills through the material. When I first got it I thought there was something wrong but after reading more it must be for really light material. Being that there are so many different applications its hard to please everyone with just 4 modes which is where one key comes into play but I don't really buy into the software side of that yet.
  20. I have a 2451, 2654, two 2655, 2659, 2662, and a bosch iwbh182. Not to mention my work truck has a 2755 and 2763 on it, yet I can hardly wait for the 2860. In reality I don't need it, but after listing out my impact wrenches I see I have a problem haha.
  21. I hadn't even seen the dch293 was released but that should be a more capable drill with 3.5j of impact energy. It also has a bare tool price of $380 where the dch133 has 2.6j and is only $190 bare. But I was more comparing it to the dch273 which is a brushless 1" with 2.1 joules for $290 or a milwaukee 2712 ($300bare) and 2713 ($280bare) which are similar in power. An arguement could be made either way as to whether a d-handle or compact is better. But I think the size rating are kind of goofy on rotary drills. I have a m18 2712 which is a 1" but I would say it's probably best suited drilling 3/8" to 1/2" holes. I've done 5/8" and 3/4" holes but it really drains a 5.0 battery like 2 10" deep holes per charge.
  22. Yea it's a sds plus and it seems to be priced right, being close to $100 cheaper than most cordless rotary drills in that 1" class.
  23. Do any of the insiders have any info on the possible release of a new dewalt 1/2 brushless compact impact wrench? I have a dcf880 1/2 compact that I would like to replace before spring. I know they just released the dcf890 3/8 brushless compact and I don't want to buy a dcf880 this month to have them release the 1/2 brushless next month. But there are also some deals to be had that I would hate to miss out on and then end up paying full price for a dcf880 if the brushless doesn't come out. My tool rep claims it's coming someday, but he's been saying this since the dcf886 came out. I'm sure it's just wishful thinking but after seeing milwaukees new mid sized impact wrench, could there be a mid sized in the works for dewalt? Is there any possibility that the reason dewalt didn't release a 1/2 brushless compact when they released the 3/8, is because they're going to release a new 1/2 mid sized brushless impact wrench?
  24. I agree these big batteries definately have their place and it's exciting to see them evolve. And maybe like Bremen says the weight added to the 3.0/9.0 will be weighed out by the extended runtime. I just think grinders are a little different animal than most of the other high demand tools. It's definately a high demand tool that will drain a battery in a hurry, but unlike your stationary tools or even the sds where the tools weight is mainly on the ground, the battery end of a grinder is supported almost entirely by the user. In the end I'm sure it'll come down to personal preference and I'm sure now that I have the flexvolt system I'll try the 3.0/9.0 at some point.
  25. My personal collection -flexvolt 60v dcg414 -m18 fuel 2780 -m18 2680 -bosch 18v CAG180 My construction company Cordless -m18 fuel 2780 -m18 2680 3 -20v dewalt dcg414 2-18v dewalt dc411 Corded - milwaukee 11 amp 4.5in. 6146 2- dewalt 13 amp 4.5in. d28114 - dewalt 15 amp 7in./9in. Not sure what model, just know you better be hanging on tight. Next on the list is metabo being that they're supposed to be the grinders to have, but we use the corded models less and less and it's another battery platform to have to get into.
