  1. these things are pretty nice. i have both the straight version and the gun version. out of the two i would say i like the straight version better but only wish the clutch feature was on it. i keep the gun version at home and i use it all the time when taking apart chassis or covers. i also find it easier to use with 3" hex bits or longer without bit holders. that way i never really lose the bit when disengaging from the fastener. at first when i got my straight version i thought it would just be a gimmic but its actually a pretty handy tool. grats on ur purchase theultimatehic. i know u will use it more and more. only thing sucks about the dewalt 8v stuff is that there is only like these 2 types of screw guns. straight and gun, and the lame flashlight. also the batteries are like 40-50 bucks. thats where dewalt sticks it to us. :/
  2. i break my phone all the time. it doesn't even matter if there is a case on it. if it hits concrete, the screen shatters. i had protection plan on phone but it costs 2x as much than fixing urself. so far, ive fixed 3 of mine. and about 10 for friends and family. id rather fix cars than fix these smart phones. :/
  3. these know it alls from dewalt will make 12v brushless tools but it'll be brushless potato peeler, hot glue gun and an inflater for blowing up air mattresses for when ur hosting inlaws. that will be 1st phase and after a year only bring out the drill and impact and that will be the only release from phase 2.
  4. i would love to upgrade my 12v tools. some of these companies are taking their sweet stupid time .grrrr. ryobi brushless 12v would be somewhat tempting. maybe. i have given up all hope on 12v brushless from dewalt. if i were to jump ship to milwaukee, it would be because of 12v.
  5. cool project caterpillar. pls post pics of the finished restorations.
  6. like caterpillar posted. i wouldn't either. you only need to re-add grease if you inspect and notice wear and tear, or for instance your impact driver/wrench is out of warranty and you need to lets say need to put a new anvil on, then you definitely want to add a glob on anything that is metal to metal contact to prolong the longevity of the part. if you really wanted to submerge the impact overnight, i wouldn't use regular grease, non conductive would be the way to go but its still not a good idea.
  7. hello. im interested in the dcr025 jobsite radio. i love the tough system but my main focus on purchasing a radio is portability. my local HD doesn't have these yet or doesn't have a shelf model. only question i have before i purchase is i know the tough system has a detachable cord and that is also a requirement, but does the dcr025 also have this feature on the cord? if anyone has this radio would love some feed back or if anyone has actually seen it in person could relay. thank you.
  8. wow nice stuff rutter. wow nice stuff rutter. that thing all the way to the right. is that a precision bit set or a hand impact. also, is it wera?
  9. i have opened my cordless impacts open from 1/4" drivers to compact wrench and even the big 1/2" wrench. all mine had a somewhat generous coating of what looked like white lithium grease. before i put them back together, i resprayed the metal to metal contacts with liquid wrench white lithium grease. i prolly didn't need to but grease is cheap and its not going to hurt it if you add more.
  10. nice set of screwdrivers. or atleast from first glance and not zooming into the picture that is what they seem like. 1 person at my shop uses a set of wera for fine hand tightening. just out of curiousity, does wera make bolstered screwdrivers so you can beat em with a hammer?
  11. great review. i got this recently and used it already extensively. runs way more cool than my corded grinders. probably shouldn't be using flap discs on cheaper grinders but when they are 20 bucks and pretty much disposable, i really dont care. the flex volt grinder does it no problem and stays cool. for cutting, its a beast. only gripe i have about it is the charger that came with it. it is a straight up wind turbine when charging. i can hear the thing from almost 3 booths away at my shop.
  12. for the few that were wondering if an anvil swap works on the 887, it certainly does. i was kind of hesitant on cannibalizing my old 883 just for the anvil but i was going to throw the 883 away anyways if it worked and im glad that it does. few things i have noticed. the original anvil on the 887 is trash. there is significant wobble on alot of them. some worse than others. before i took mine apart i put it side by side to my other that i got when it first released and my original still has less wobble than the new one that i just got. and i beat the heck out of my original. after the anvil swap, it feels way more secure. another thing was is that i had to take the clam shell off 2nd time cuase the 3 speed selector was super sloppy when i put it back together the 1st time. i looked at it after taking it apart the 2nd time and noticed a clip that needs to be pushed in all the way in the handle and also making sure u do the same for the selector. make sure its put back on speed 1. all in all this didn't cost me very much. an older 883 that i got as a free gift from a combo deal. and a new 887 that i also just got from another combo deal. no other parts are needed other than just the anvil for those that are interested. it is just 1 extra step from jimbo's anvil swap trick which is making sure the 3 speed selector is set back to 1 and making sure the clip that moves side to side is also depressed all the way back so the clam shell can be fully seated back. i get to have a pretty much same performance as the new brushless model that is coming out + 3 speeds but totally worthless almost on a wrench but for way cheaper. only time will tell if it will hold up.
  13. been waiting for an official dewalt brushless 3/8 i/wrench for a while now. i have even done the dcf886 anvil swap ( credits to Jimbo ) just to say i have a 3/8 brushless wrench. at my work i have 4 impacts in the 20v dewalt line-up. 2 of which are wrenches. the older 883 and the 886 anvil swap. i need multiples because i have to deal with multiple size fasteners and time is money. switching sockets constantly on the same impact is a nuisance for me. as for this new brushless 3/8 wrench. on paper it looks identical to the 886 with just an anvil swap but at PREMIUM price. acmetools.com has it listed at $179 as just a bare tool. that is very high. if it truly is the 886 with a different anvil, you could have this at a much lower price if you dont mind doing the jimbo hack. i could also be totally wrong and there has been an improvement in the guts of the gun. would really love to see jimbo buying this and doing a side by side comparison to his 886 hack..... but at $179, i doubt it.
