  1. I had that same complaint. Based on your post, I just ordered one too. I am on my second head already and it is worn out.
  2. It looks like most of the 40v tools (not the batteries themselves) on Dewalt's site now show "THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED" when you click on the product details.

    DeWalt 20v Mower

Agreed. I use mine with the 9's. It should just come with those as far as I am concerned. The only complaint I have now is I think the cable will eventually go. The placement makes it prone to getting pinched when folding the handlebar. When i fold and unfold I am extra careful. My son on the other hand who now cuts most of the time is not so careful. I keep telling him and he remembers for a week and then the next week I happen to look at the mower and see the cable pinched again. I guess I need to rig something up to permanently keep it out of the way.
  4. I don't believe they are discontinued, just some of the big box stores are getting rid of them. If you believe the marketing, they are more for contractors than homeowners which are used to not getting a lot of their stuff from big box stores anyway. I had them and think they worked great. I have been donating my set to my father though as I replace them with either the 20 or 60v items so that way I have one less platform to worry about. The batteries will stay expensive.

I do because I also have one other Dewalt FV tool and also use the FV batteries on the baby miter for excellent run time. If I did not have the FV tool and they were not usable in some of the higher demand devices then I would of probably gone Ego too. I did notice the cable getting pinched also. I have not found a way to get it to always stay out of the way without just keeping an eye on it each time I fold the arm.

Might be a little heavy to check that mowe.
  7. If only the baby miter had double bevel then it would be perfect. I don't need the big one but hate trying to figure out the angles when having to reverse things.
  8. Price seems a little high for bare tool to me. $20 cheaper and I am in. ACME seems to have frequent Dewalt coupons though so maybe we can get it for that price.

I just was over at HD's site and noticed they had user reviews up now that few more folks have them in their hands. The overall feel there is that while the product is of decent quality most have had run time issues also where it does not meet their expectations.

You found the same thing as me about the run time. Their results were obviously in a lab with perfect conditions.
  11. For me. I had a Ryobi set that served me well for about 4 years but then the tools started giving out when working on my fence and then the deck. I decided that I would prefer something with a little more longevity. I have both a Lowes and a Home Depot around me but wanted to stay away from a "Store Brand" so that I could find the items for the devices even if I move to where only one of those stores exist. I had some others that I knew with Dewalt equipment for years so decided to make the switch as it met my criteria.

I think a lot of it had to do with re-usability. I am not positive on this but I believe the system is identical to the the 40v one with just a different battery holder. I believe the two batteries are in serial which makes it 40 volts instead of parallel which would keep it at 20v but give it more run time. If they did go with a 60v it would have to be a different motor/internals. The may still come up with one but this was the quickest way to market with two platforms pretty much at the same time.

On normal grass I did not. When trying to go through the tall grass I did notice a little less bogging down. It did give me a good amount more run time. Not quite double but sooooo much more.

Scotty, wondering what your thoughts on your unit were? I am happy with the performance of the unit but still not with the batteries. I mulched my yard using two 9ah Flexvolt batteries and was able to complete the yard. I did have about 5 strips that it would not make it through as it was just to tall and kept bogging down. I had to put on fresh batteries for that. I just don't by that the two included 5ah batteries would be able to do 1/4 acre unless on it is not actually cutting anything and just running while you go over the lawn. I think they should of included those to begin with. It will take longer to recoup the value of no gas with the added price. But the convenience of no gas is nice.

SO it cut and bagged fairly well on the first cut. The cut was clean. The two batteries it came with though did not make it through the whole yard. I have a quarter acre plot and it only made it about 75% of the way through.I think I getting a pair of the 9AH Flexvolt batteries will definitely help. I was bagging, not mulching. I don't know if that takes more energy pushing the grass into the bag or not but it was a little to tall to mulch. Next week I will try mulching instead.

It does look to be the material as the string trimmer. With that maybe it will hold up a little better than I thought. I have had the string trimmer for 2 years now and so far so good. I am just a home owner though so only use it once a week.

Mine came in. Unfortunately is was raining all day so I was not able to really try it. It seems fairly solid but not sure about the key. It does not always go on easily and worry it could break over time. I also wonder about the padding/grip material at the top of the handle bars. Between the dirt and sweat I see that as potentially wearing down and falling apart quickly. But the most important part about how it cuts/bags/mulches will have to wait until this weekend.

Sweet, I just checked and got mine too. It should be here next Tuesday for me. I am excited.

I just went ahead and ordered mine from Acme also. I have a 15 year old self propelled Toro that still works pretty well so I should be ok if it gets delayed a bit. It is my last gas device. I was hoping for a 22" or self propelled also but hopefully at least that means the mower will never bog down since all power can be diverted to cutting instead of propelling it. You mention, needing to find a good mulching blade. Have you already heard or seen that the blade it comes with is not sufficient for that?
  20. That is disappointing. The build quality was the one thing I would of been sure of. It looks like a solid beast and their tools have not let me down in the past. Back to waiting for some cutting reviews at least.
  21. With any part in particular. Does it not bag well, not mulch well, bog down or just disappointed in it being on 20"
  22. I knew Dewalt announced a 20v mower in the fall to be available in the spring. I never saw any announcement about the 40v model. I was just on their website and noticed a 40v model now also. Just FYI as I had not heard/seen anything about it previously. The specs don't really say much so I am not sure how different it is than the 20v one. Dewalt 40v Max Mower
  23. Yeah, surprised they are not keeping them around for their lasers/stud finder/cameras.

They actually have a FV chainsaw/trimmer/blower so they have all three platforms in OPE.

Is that a 20", was hoping for a 21". It seems a little small, also very non existing looking.
