  1. I cracked one open.
  2. Just for fun, what are some 18V Ryobi tools you wish to see. I will start. A cordless portable band saw, I have a corded Dewalt one that I love, but would be great to have a cordless option and all my big cordless tools are Ryobi 1+ system. I know Milwaukee has one in their 18V line and a tiny one in their 12V line, so it should not be a stretch. Why all the nitch and unique tools without covering this base? I would like a much more powerful 1/2" brushless impactor. Ridged has one that looks like the current Ryobi 3 speed not sure how it compares for power but it should not be a stretch. For comparison of what I am dreaming about, my buddy does all Makita tools and he has a massive 1/2" brushless impactor, ( XWT08Z ) it is rated for 1180 ft/lb. It is a bit deceptive as it does not spin fast or try to jump out of your hands when you pull the trigger like a brushed tool does, is it has kind of an anemic first impression but man it hits hard and I have yet to fins a fastener it can not remove. I am still using the original P260 1/2" impactor and it did get some much needed life breathed in to it with the 4Ah (P108) batteries and now the 6Ah (P193) batteries seem to make the tool even better. I would also like a quiet brushless impactor(1/4" hex) like the ridged stealth force pulse driver (R86036K), also should not be a stretch. I am excited about these new Lithium + HP batteries and am looking forward to expanding my tools to use with them. FYI I took apart my 6AH (P193) battery and it looks to be using 10 cells that I would guess are 20650. Could not get access to the actual cells without destructive disassembly. But they looked wider than 18mm and were definitely 650mm long. Probably something like LG HG6 20650 30A Flat Top 3000mAh Battery cells. The new terminals for the HP batteries and the brushless tools seem to be a serial port type communication. On the PCB they were labeled DT and DR. The brushless angle grinder was great on the 4Ah P108s but is nearly unstallable withe the 6Ah battery, amazing. There is a youtube video comparing the Brushless 7-1/4" circular saw with the 4 and 6Ah batteries and the improvement there was significant. Thanks for letting me dream.
  3. So I have been really wanting the Ryobi brushless angle grinder, I even looked for one in England a few months ago on a business trip, but did not have success. I instead went out and got the older P4221 brushed version I believe the price had just dropped to $29. It was a good tool and I enjoyed using it due to it's convenience but with 6500RPM and limited torq it was defiantly less powerful than a plug in grinder. It also had a way of burning through a battery quick, even the big 4Ah ones. Well Good News... I picked up the new P423 Brushless grinder from Home Depot today. They were actually running a special on HDs web sight where if you get the P251 Brushless hammer drill starter pack with the 4Ah battery for $150 you get to choose another bare tool for free So I got the new $99 Brushless grinder for free. The P423 Brushless grinder came with a grinding wheel, cutoff wheel, and 2 blade guards. One is open on the bottom like most grinders and the second is shrouded covering most of the bottom of the blade area as well. The position of the guard is easily changed by pressing a button and then as you rotate it there are detentes it clicks in to. The new tool is about 1-3/4" shorter in length than the old tool. The new one spins at 10400RPM which is nearly twice as fast as the prior model. The new one has a top mounted locking slide on switch like many other grinders have whereas the old version just has a hold down non locking trigger. They carried over the holder for the blade changing wrench in the handle found on the previous model, which I really like. When using it, it feels like it has the power of a plug in grinder. So far I am really impressed with it. One down side the the new grinder is it seems to have a very slight parasitic draw when off. ~0.5mA which is not a lot, but is enough to discharge a big 4Ah battery within a year if just sitting on the shelf doing nothing. The brushless drill does not exhibit this behavior. It looks like they are releasing the P508 7-1/4 brushless circular saw for Black Friday. I tried to pick one up in store after ordering online as it showed every store near me had 3 in stock but the store called me to say they could not do it and canceled my order. I replaced it online with them shipping it to my home, we will see if that goes through.
