    I followed the same advice and still getting the green red alternating. Frustrating. It can flash like that all it wants but I refuse to get into the Xmas spirit! It's the end of May after all. So I unplugged the charger and let it sit for 20 minutes. Plugged it back in, put a battery in and solid red light! Back in business.
