  1. I had a similar issue with one, once, and it turned out that the problem was being caused by incorrect storage. It was being stored in a particularly damp area.
  2. Then see that the Makita is even worse and throw that in garbage and buy Festool. Getting back to the problem, sounds like an electronics fault. Capacitors in particular often misbehave when they are stone cold. Sounds to me like you need to replace the electronics.
  3. My old planer needs replacing. I am interested in the DCP580N because it is lighter than the 26500 but I don't have the opportunity to try the DCP580N before I buy it. I tend to use planers for small amounts of removal. So usually less than 1mm. What is really important for me is that when I set the planer to 0 then it actually removes 0! You can't turn the knob to less than 0 so obviously what it cuts when set to 0 is critical. I will be a disaster if I buy a DCP580N and can't get it calibrated. I tried a DeWalt D26500 and it removed about 0.75mm when set to 0. Obviously out of calibration but the D26500 can be calibrated so it's no big problem. BUT, I am not sure the DeWalt DCP580N can be calibrated. Looks to me like the blades do not have the little adjusting screws that bigger brother D26500 does. So for me right now buying the DCP580N is a big risk. Can anyone put my mind at rest here?
