The big problem with lithium repair is that once the battery is disconnected from the internal circuit board you have to reprogram it to accept a charge and know when to shutoff. That's probably one big reason that nicads are still made.

Why wouldn't you upgrade to NiMh, double your amps and use your present tools and chargers.

Rebuild them it sounds like they're older. You can even move up to NiMh and if you do upgrade your tools it's worth it for a spare.

The discontinued battery packs are already being produced for those voltages.
