Celebrating my progress in welding class

Recommended Posts

I've been taking a 30 hour welding class just for hobby type stuff, customizing my trailers and toolboxes, repair around the house, making stuff I want. My beads are improving but I'm mostly concerned with strength, I want to be able to trust my welds. So I've been practicing at home doing this t-joint fillet weld over and over with mig, then cutting and buffing it to check out my penetration. I've finally gotten my weld from this:ba494165c0dd0a0359a03bbd330aaaff.jpg To this:eed491559581b96808a734da73d8e190.jpg

The first picture was a couple weeks ago, the second was this week, and I just hit the same result 3 times in a row out in the garage tonight, so I'm pretty pleased with my progress.

It's great that you are taking welding classes.

Welding is something I wish I would have done but never did.

Take a look around, there might be a short evening class in your area. Mine was too short really, but gave me an opportunity to do things I couldn't have otherwise, like run a plasma cutter, try a torch outfit etc. I've already ordered me a torch set, plasma cutter is next.
