comp56
so I got one of these old well built map storage bins, my question is: it is 4 feet deep I would like to make it 20" 22" deep by cutting it in half......any suggestions on cutting it without completely dismantling it? Atlas2000
Unless you know someone with a really big bandsaw, a friend on the other end of a two man crosscut saw is your best bet.

Stercorarius
Track saw or other circular saw at full depth around the perimeter. Once that is cut acquire superhuman levels of patience and go from the inside of each map compartment and cut around the outside of each one with the M12 rotary tool. I'm just not sure you can fit an arm in there and see where you are cutting. Just spit balling ideas. If you were up to selling your kidney(s) I would say Festool sword saw. Alternatively you could use your new welder to make a jig to cut square and ride along a straight edge for a chainsaw.
comp56
well guys thanks for the suggestions, after thinking about this for awhile, I could not cut it straight in 2 pieces like I wanted however I decided to just cut it down to 35" high by 30" deep and just save the other good pieces for future projects. BTW aside from cutting the outside with my M18 Fuel circular saw I cut each and every square face with my M18 multi-tool and as many cut as that was less than half a fully charged 5.0ah ......
Hugh Jass
I'd call up Chuck Norris and have him roundhouse kick that thing right in half.

Eric - TIA
Wow, you did a nice job making that an even cut and looks like you have some nice wood left over for future projects.
plumbfitter
Chain saw would have been a good option?
