Adirondack footrests and table

Hey guys,

I made a second chair for my wife and had just enough wood left over that I could make two footrests and a table.  As I said before, I made the chairs from Fine Woodworking plans.   The footrests and table were designs that I figured out.  I can't tell you how frickin comfortable these chairs are with the footrests. I have a feeling we are going to be drinking a few margaritas from them this summer.

Looks gorgeous John, any finish to add or is that good enough just to go out with?

Going to add some Sikken Cetol 1 to the set after it warms up.  It would be okay since its cedar, but it will weather pretty quickly without protection.

Turned out nice, those the chairs you showed us in periscope? Been awhile back.

This sealer, is it widely available, or are there other brands out there that work well too if they are more readily available?

First, let me compliment you on the beautiful work! Second, I have never crossed paths with any Adirondack chair that I found comfortable. Hard to get out of and just generally unpleasant to sit in. Hope you enjoy them though.

Kind of like a bean bag, that's my experience at least, don't like em

Same chairs as I showed on periscope.

It doesn't appear the sickken is available at a lot of locations.  I had to do a search for my area.  From what I am told and what I have read, this stuff appears to be really good......anything else as good?? don't know.

I agree that they are hard to get into and out of....especially the older that I get.

I have to say, they are comfortable though.  Me and the kids watched Dr. Strange last night and I sat in one for the whole 2 hours.  My  butt did get a little sore by the end, but other than that, they were super comfy.

Ummm, I think we have an issue. I keep checking FedEx and they haven't got the call to pick them up yet. When should I expect them?

This weekend it was warm enough to apply a finish to the chair set.  I used Sikkens Cetol 1 Cedar for the finish.  What I've been reading is this stuff is great.

At $76/gallon, I sure hope it is.  I put two coats on and still have a half of a gallon left.  So, I should be good for a bunch of years.

Oh by the way, I stuck the rags I used to wipe off the excess finish from the chairs into the outside garbage can.  A few hours later, I got a call from my neighbor telling me that my garbage can was on fire.  Sure enough, the cotton from the rags must have had an exothermic reaction with the finish.  The strong breeze we had yesterday, must have added just enough oxygen to the situation to cause it to self combust.  It was a mess.

We are fine.  It was contained and just starting out.

I'm going to start soaking them for sure.
