SetBuilder
It doesn't have to last, just look good for a commercial The middle layer is 1/4" MDF the rest is 3/4 MDF. Its a quick way to build a door that is going to be painted.

rrmccabe
Very cool. Heavy? I bet you made some dust making that.

Pretty heavy, it's basically 2 sheets of 3/4 MDF 6'10 1/2 x 3'5 1/2 plus the 1/4 in sheet. Huge pile of dust when routing the panels. The cabinet I used has a nice vacuum but it didn't do much. rrmccabe
Looks like a nice router table setup. I love working with MDF but for reasons you know better than probably anyone on here, I hate the stuff.
SetBuilder
I guess you can tell where the router table was.
khariV
is it really cost effective to build an MDF door rather that buying a cheap builder grade door?
comp56
door looks good, when cutting MDF any time I can I use the band saw, it pulls most of the dust down instead of all over like a circular saw or table saw, far more duct control. Atlas2000
khariV raises a good question. (looks good by the way) Was there some reason a generic cheapo couldn't be used? Seems like a lot of labor for a tosser.
SetBuilder
Sometimes we do use pre hung door. But for what ever reason this door was to be 41 1/2 in wide. Not exactly an off the shelf item. All all about what an art director envisions for the look. All good... Guess what, plans changed

At around $30 for a 4x8 sheet of mdf it would be fairly cost effective I would think.

I'm not sure of the cost of MDF but no way do we pay $30 a sheet. I buy 3/4 Birch Plywood from my shop for 24.00 a sheet, 3/4 CDX is about 15.00 a sheet. We buy in such bulk I doubt its more than 15.00 for a 4x8 x 3/4 sheet of MDF.
Atlas2000
If all your clients change their mind after the fact, you must be swamped with work. Good on you. Second door looks great too by the way.

I would guess my school gets some kind of discount as well. Maybe they don't get much discount on mdf. They use more top quality 3/4 oak ply than mdf.
