The Driller Killer

I need people's technical opinions on the film The Driller Killer. I already posted this question in cordless drills but hopefully more people will see it here.

Put simply, in the 1979 film The Driller Killer the title character has an adaptor for his mains drill that allows him to run it off a power pack on his belt. The question is, with technology available no later than 1983, how practical is this? Would it be heavy? Would the drill be powerful enough to run amok?

I have a genuine reason for this question!
