With the recent announcement of the m12 gen 2 stubby that has 550 ft lbs of max torque, what is the point of buying the 250 ft lbs m18 compact impact wrench? The m18 is bulkier with the bigger battery and has less power.

Good point and not sure why.

The m18 does have one key if you need those features.

I am curious to see how many people really use one-key.  I get it for finding a tool and assembling lines but who knows?

One key on the impact wrenches essentially turn it into a torque wrench from my understanding

I bought the m18 1st, mainly to remove the lug nuts off my F150. Later I bought the m12 because of the smaller lighter size, and is easier to carry in a tool pouch. But it actually has enough torque to remove the lugs too! I've used the m12 95%  of the time I need a impact wrench and my m18 sits at the bottom of one of my tool chests.

I am starting to hear that a lot from people.  It's amazing how powerful the smaller tools are getting.

Tools are getting smaller but powerful, you are right! I just hope that soon they are not going to announce that Lithium batteries have to be collected and replaced with less powerful batteries loool

Here is a link to read about Lithium batteries.
