The system has been built to handle a variety of drilling, fastening and measurement applications. All products in the system feature a 12 Volt MAX* Lithium Ion battery that charges in 40 minutes. The battery is strategically placed at the bottom of the handle to allow for the patented contoured grip. This configuration provides comfort and balance and allows contractors to easily stand the tool on its battery between uses. “To achieve the desired grip for these tools, our team spent time constructing prototypes and studying Anthropometric guides that detail the different hand shapes and sizes,†said Dan Lopano, Industrial Design Manager for DEWALT. “This effort, combined with our advanced CAD technologies and focus on user satisfaction, has produced a line of products that exceeds the comfort and balance of other tools in the market today.†Each tool in the system incorporates features to improve overall performance on the job. For instance, three LED lights on the screwdriver, impact driver and impact wrench provide visibility without shadows. A new 1/4-inch hex chuck on the impact driver and screwdriver allows users to simply push the bit in with one hand to lock it in place, and it accepts a 1-inch bit tip to fit into the tight spaces. A wireless, removable screen on the inspection camera is ideal for accessing tight areas. Edge
Crap...Just when my 18V set is complete and tool spending done, sigh.... DeWalt's about to unleash there 12V Li ion's. First visual impressions looks to be a winner. Nice option for the drill/driver's 1/4" one hand chuck drill/driver or standard chuck with 2 speed. Glad they followed Hitachi's 10.8V stand up base and similar shape grip/handle, but they also should have made the flashlight also like Hitachi's stand up base with piviot, the new flashlight looks almost non ergo if you ask me. Very nice abundance of rubber grip though. Can't wait to demo them! Wondering if a radio is in the works? i hope so cause you cant run or charge the batts in the DC012! 1finger
I just returned my impact/driver 12 volt set to Lowes today. Tried doing some work with 3 " screws and they "sucked" big time. Slower than death and dead in no time. Returned them and picked up a new Lithium ion 18 volt impact / driver set instead. - not knowing anything about the lithium ion batterries yet , the Lowes employee informed me that the "compact" lithium batterries were the only lithium batterries - period. - There were no xrp lithium. Thanks Mr. Lowes employee. I'm thinking of returning it and ordering an XRP lithium set instead. Any thoughts?
kanxrus
While the 12v Max is a fantastic line up, it's not for everyone. It is 12v, and will outperform anything it's class currently on the market roughly 80% of any application I've tested thus far. The tools don't always win, but 80% is pretty darn good. As far as 18v compact lithium ion goes, it's not for everyone. It depends greatly on what you plan on using it for on a day to day basis. If power and run-time are your two main factors, then I would go with XRP. If you readily have a charger available, and you don't do big projects, and weight and balance are more important, then I would choose the compact lithium. 1finger
Thank you JC. Sorry for the rather harsh post by myself earlier. Frustration sets in after multiple 2 hour trips to the hardware store for nothing. I wanted to use the 12 volt for sheathing , framing and decking. Wrong choice. I am going to pursue the lithium XRP. Switching batteries is a pain.
Edge
Just picked up the drill/driver & impact with local promo, free batt or flashlight. great ergo's & power. I find using the 12v drills more than my 18v other than continuously driving 3" deck screws. Anyone know when other tools will be available? maybe a saw and a compact radio or even a multi tool would be 8)
