a.turowski
Hi all, I am planning to buy DC988 drill driver. By default it has an adjustable side handle with a 43mm diameter collar. Before I commit to buy I would like to make sure that this drill fits my mobile drill stand. The stand has a 43mm internal diameter collar which is 25mm wide. Can anyone tell me what is the width of the collar on DC988 please? I would like to make sure that the drill stand collar will not interfere with drill driver spindle. Best regards,
kanxrus
If you are talking about the Clutch Ring, then 43mm is too small. The clutch ring measures at 2 1/2" which converts to 63.5mm.

No. I am talking about the ring/collar that is attached to DC988 side handle - please refer to the following photo http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DeWALT-Cordless-Combi-Drill-Handle-DC988-DC925-DC100K-/310318776175?pt=UK_Home_Garden_PowerTools_SM&hash=item484070bf6f I assume that the internal diameter of the handle ring is 43mm, but I need to know what is the "height" of this ring. By "height" I mean the width of the piece of metal that makes this ring. I know that my English is not perfect, so please bear with me if the description of my request is not easily comprehensible. My mobile drill stand look like that: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tecmobil-mobile-drill-stand-/180656528128?pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item2a0ff7db00 and I simply want to make sure that the moving collar where you fit the drill driver (the bit on the top of the drill stand) doesn't get into contact with drill's spindle. deedub35
I have this drill and just measured it. Collar is 21 mm long. Keep in mind the chuck is less than 43 mm in diameter so there would be no rubbing.

As the user of this drill driver can you tell me if you are happy with that tool please? I mean is it in your opinion a good tool ?

kanxrus
I've had mine for 6 years now, still going strong! If I had to guess, I would imagine Dewalt has sold more DC988 drills than any other. It's had a good long run. I believe it launched this month back in 2004!
deedub35
I've dropped mine so many times. The worst fall was from the roof of my garage onto the concrete driveway. But it is still fine and still spins true.
Jack
Really great set. I ordered 4 of these from another supplier, two for the company, one for one of the workers personally, and one for myself. They have been used quite hard in our manufacturing business already and the guys LOVE them. I'm personally very impressed with the power and speed. For what you get, it's a great price. I was a little hesitant on the bag at first rather then a plastic box, but it really is much handier because you can put in some bit sets and things like that, where the plastic box limits you to the drills and batteries only. Saves from having to carry another tool box around. The tools themselves are really well balanced, powerful, and solid feeling. The quick release chuck on the DC925 impact driver is really quick and pretty easy to do one handed. The ratcheting chuck on the DC988 hammer drill is very solid and doesn't seem to know how to slip. I would knock the set down a half star if I could because I really think it should have come with the DC925 hammer drill, the DC988 is three generations old now. I can't seem to find much difference between the two, but the new self-tightening chuck and more powerful motor would be nice. That being said, the 988 is, as said, rock solid and a really nice drill regardless. One really nice feature that should be mentioned is that the included battery charger will charge lithium batteries, so down the road when the cost comes down on them, you are all set. Both tools feature the newer small footprint battery flange, so the lithium batteries will fit and look right for those of you concerned with the cosmetics of your tools. That's why you see it in a lot of special buy's. It's a cost-effective drill, that really out preforms some of the lithium competitors.
