Wierd Smells from Dewalt DC720 and DC056

I have been told 2 things. 1 - last year Dewalt made a brush change, in the frame-less motors. This caused a burning smell to come off the motors.

2 - there is a coating on the armature to protect it from corrosion during shipping. Either way, it's common in the DC720, DC825/6/7, and the 20v max line.

It's nothing to be concerned about, and will gradually disappear over time. It takes a lot of revolutions to wear a MM off your brushes.

I recently bought a DC720 and DC056 with two NiCad batteries of the steal of a price of $150 from Sears.  When I use it it gives off a weird smell.  I thought that this will fade after it breaks in but I am not sure. Is this normal?

Yup, no worries.  It should get better with time, but even if it continues to smell, unless it loses power, than don't worry about it.
