Dewalt DCF885 Wobble

Hi,

This is my first time buying Dewalt, I purchased the DCD985 and DCF885.

The Hammer Drill chuck got stuck in the open position and I couldn't even loosening it with a pair of channel lock.

Now the Impact driver Wobble like crazy with a 2 inch bit, with a 6 inch bit I could use it as a egg beater.

My question is, how my bit wobble on the DCF885 is acceptable?

So you have two separate issues right? because the way I read it sounds like your chuck got stuck ,and due to that, the impact driver now wobbles....

at any rate, I believe your best bet is to take them back and exchange them... I don't know where you bought them though. If at from a local store, just go back and explain the problem you are having.

Regarding this,

the Impact driver Wobble like crazy

sounds like the anvil is not straight or... I encounter a similar problem with my 12v impact... it did not come like that when I bought it... the problem started when I took it apart (like I do to everything, though I killed the warranty by doing so to) and put it back together... the solution was to separate the motor from the hammer and turn the pinion a little... that was a weird situation to experience because the motor shaft and the hammers anvil and everything else are straight... but something is definitely making it wobble... I may post a video later on after I finish some chores...

also, do you mean wobble while actually using the tool right? and not spinning the bit in the air...

Is the wobble from the bit being sloppy, or is the quick connect chuck actually making it sloppy?  When you put it on a screw, does it straiten out?  all impacts will look pretty sloppy/wobbly when you have a bit tip extension on it, but when you put it onto a screw/put the bit to the surface, it should straiten out.

This came as a kit, the first one the hammer drill chuck got stuck on first use, I send it back to FactoryAuthorizedOutlet.com.  They would not replace just the drill, I had to send back everything.

I received supposedly a new set, but they send me back the same dewalt box.

Now I don't know if these are refurbished or what.  How could they send me my old Dewalt box back if they were suppose to send out a new set?  FactoryAthorizedoutlet.com AKA Maxtool.com  had been a pain to deal with, they have no online tracking system or status update, you have to call them on the phone for every little thing.

My first impact driver has serial number 184XXX, the replacement has serial number 249xx.

I hope I didn't get someone's  reject.

I think it is the quick connect chuck that is making it sloppy, the same bit in my Panasonic screwdriver does not show this amount of wobble.  It straighten  it self out if I hold the bit but I feel a lot of vibration.

I purchased these tool on 12/01/2011 so far it had been a frustrating experience.

First thing out of Dewalt's mouth when I called was "We offer 90day money back!"

Could you guys that own an Impact Driver check yours and see how much wobble it has.

Thanks Everyone!

sorry you had to go through that but they sound shady... I would try to get a refund if it was me and take my business else where.

you might be right about the quick connect chuck making it wobble. I'm no expert but it makes sence since there is a pin that is always applying out ward pressure to the bits. And since the opening has wiggle room for the bit to go in easily... i would guess the bit is tilting... so makes sense that a long bit would wobble spinning the drill bit in the air.

Now that I remember, my impact wrench made my long sockets wobble to due to the same idea...  it has a ball bearing that hold the sockets in place... applying pressure on one side of the wall of the socket...etc.

But does that “issue†(wobble) really hinders your work?

BTW, my 12max impact with a quick chuck does make long bits wobble, but that does not really bother me... the wobble is only really felt while spinning in the air... the hammer hammering surely is felt more in the hand then the puny wobble :) .... but i don't really know how severe is your wobble though.

post a video if you can.
