dtsman
Something went wrong with my DCD950. When I hold the keyless chuck to open it and spin it in reverse, it works, but the gears make a grinding noise. Works fine in forward without a grinding noise. But once I put in a screw bit and tighten it, then try to reverse a screw out, the chuck just opens up as if I were holding it. I am find with fixing this myself. Found a parts site. Trying to determine the correct parts to order. Has anyone seen this before and now exactly what is wrong? I searched the threads and did not see this issue. Do you think I need a transmission? Thanks, Bo
Bingobelle
It has nothing to do with the gearbox. The problem if there is a problem is in the chuck. Before you exchange the chuck, try to twist the chuck quick into forward direction. Sometimes when you spin the chuck in or out when taking out bits or bores it can be a ratching sound from the chuck and then you have to "twist" it quick into forward position and the back by hand.
