What's in your tough box?

I've been having fun with Kaizen foam. So many DeWalt tools never came with a hard shell case or were purchased second hand and are finally getting a home of their own.

These body hammers and anvils had a molded plastic case, but it wasn't weather sealed and developed rust just sitting in storage... I have large and small shrinking discs that I'm thinking of attaching to the underside of the lid, as well.

Just added a second small box (with the hinged lid) to the setup today so figured I'd post some pictures. I have one of the small lidded boxes stacked on the other small lidded box  - so everything can be accessed without having to un-stack anything. I still need to add some more anchors, fasteners, etc. but it's done for the most part.

I have thought about using one for such purpose, but I need all the boxes for other stuff.

I'll post some pictures of some boxes soon. I don't use inserts. Rather use as many space available for accessories so I can grab one box and have a machine and it's accessories with me.

Here's one I did modify to neatly carry the discs.D28137-1.JPGD28137-3.JPG

What kind of hardware you use to hold the disc.. photo please

I described it earlier in this topic when someone asked how I made those.

Basically it's 2 carriage bolts for one post. They are connected with an extended nut. In between is some aluminum tube as you can see on the photo. Also on both ends of the aluminum tube there are plastic endcaps in which I drilled a hole so that it would fit over the bolts. The outside part of the endcap is cut-off with a knife as I don't need it. Only needed the part that sits inside the tube to keep everything centered  on the bolts so it lines up nicely.

As for the height. They don't touch the lid when closed, but sits inbetween all the reinforced ribs. So when carrying it around the discs hit the lid, but the posts are longer so they can never slide off.

Well I took that bait hook, line and sinker!

I bought a DS250, DS300 and the carrier.  I spent all day trying to figure you how to pack my drill, driver, charger and batteries into the DS300.

I settled on putting some of they cups from the DS250 for screws and fasteners in the bottom along with the charger, then a 1/4" sheet of plywood flat as a divider, then a couple of small plastic boxes with dividers for bits, then another piece of plywood with the drill and driver on top of that.

I will try to get some pictures uploaded when I find time to figure out how.

John

Just a little Tough System hack for y'all. While the T-Staks have a label holder on the front, the Tough System boxes just have an indentation in the center. In keeping with the weatherproof nature of the boxes, I wanted a similarly durable label. I've been restacking and opening every box when I need a different tool... Paint pens are a fool proof solution (and can be had in yellow), but my local hardware store turned me onto white Gorilla Tape. I cut each label down to size using baking wax paper as a non-stick backing. A permanent marker will write on the tape well, and can be erased as needed with a paper towel soaked in WD-40.

I was thinking about that the other day while looking at some T-Stak's. Why the Toughsystem doesn't have any labelling options other than printing a label and stick it on there somewhere.

If I recall correctly it has been a subject of discussion on here and an idea was for DeWALT to offer an online tool where you could design labels/stickers for the boxes. I might throw this idea to my DeWALT rep, but if KWC read this, I wonder what he thinks...

Boxes are one thing, but labelling them is a necessity to make the most out of it.

I've been collecting more DS150's... I'll shamelessly share photos of my Stanley Sweetheart chisels in one, but more notable is the carving set in the top section. I carved out the plastic ribbing in the right side and fit Kaizen foam into both sections. It really is a shame that there aren't any of those drill bit box dovetails along the sides... Are you listening DeWalt reps?!?

Ah. The last photo is just a little tool porn for y'all. A set of 5 hand forged John Neeman chisels was a rather nice Christmas present to myself last year. These are actually the reason that I started investing in the Tough System. I couldn't justify spending $1K+ on steel tools without a weather-proof and indestructible case to hold them.

Awesome stuff! That last picture got my saliva going, those chisels are gorgeous.

I found some incredibly durable exterior grade labels at a craft store. Printed them with the yellow background and labels my Tough System. It worked very nicely.

I'm sure you could too, especially since you designed those stickers for the Track Saw Guide Rail.

Yep, I use industrial grade (for what it's worth) labels. Yellow tape with black text and it works great, but what I meant is that there isn't designated space for a label unlike the T-Stak which does have a designated labelling space + protective cover.

The downside though is that you have limited space.

I gotcha. True. Mine hold up real well right above the DeWalt logo on the front. It's a somewhat recessed area to protect from getting scrapped up.

But I do like the idea of having a dedicated label cover like the T-Stak.
