nascarman Posted May 16, 2007 Report Share Posted May 16, 2007 I am building a deck for the first time and needed help. I am not sure if I should buy treated lumber or Cedar. I think the cedar looks nicer, but it is more expensive. I guess if I stain the wood it would be better going with treated, but does stain hold good to treated lumber. NY Tool Worker Posted May 20, 2007 Report Share Posted May 20, 2007 They are suppose to both last a long time. We just moved into a house and it needed a back deck. The old one was a floating deck made of cedar and according to the previous owner it was over 27 years old. Just remeber if you don't do anything to cedar, it will loook more silver in the future. If you are going to stain the wood, I would go with treaded lumber as it will save you a bundle of money. Persoannly I like the natural look of cedar, but if I bought cedar, I wouldn't stain it.
