What kind of saw does this?

I'm looking for some kind of small table saw that can cut notches in the ends of bird perches for me. I guess some kind of upside down jigsaw table mount? What do they call that and are they expensive? It just needs to go on top of a bench. It needs to have blades up to about 1/8" thick so it can cut some wide enough notch slots.

Have you tried your router? You could also mount a Dremel. They do sell small table saws that might do the trick. A small table saw can run just as much as a larger one, depends on the brand. I would go with the router or dremel, much cheaper and more versitile.

By the way, weren't there some TV commercials for a multi-tool that did routing, cutting, drilling and all that? Was it any good? Does anyone remember those?

If you are trying to cut them on the ends, you can fashion a block of wood cut at an angle that would run the end of the dowel in to the blade to the desired depth at the proper angle so it would cut squarely in to the dowel. I assume you are tring to cut the ends so you can secure them in the cage bars?

If you are trying to do relief cuts along the dowel for traction so to speak, You could probably turn your table saw blade to a 30 or 45 degree angle and just have it sticking about an 1/8" above the table surface. Then just use your slide fance to run the dowels across the blade. That should give you a V shaped cut across the surface of the dowel, enough for the birds to grab on to.

You could also run a coating of pet safe glue along their length and adhere some crushed gravel or shells from Agway along its length so they can get grit and keep their beaks trimmed.
