JimboS1ice
I want to add a 3/8" impact to my line up. I have the 1/2" impact the 889 model that I plan on swapping out for the new 899 brushless. Now the question is, the only 20v 3/8" is the brushed 883 model which I believe is the motor from the 885. It's cheaper to buy a brushless 886 off of eBay than a 883, has anybody had luck swapping the 1/4" hex adapter off for a 3/8" square drive, or should I just be patient and hope that Dewalt comes out with a brushless model?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DR99
If everything is the same on the brushless impact driver all you need to do is swap out the 1/4 hex with the 3/8 anvil. Here is a link to the part.http://www.ereplacementparts.com/anvil-assy-p-70135.html

dwain
From memory the internals were not identical, make sure you check the parts diagrams....
jeffmcmillan
If you're ok with a friction ring instead of a ball detente, you can always take a grinder and file to a 1/2 impact. You could even replace the ball detente if you wanted but that would be a bit more difficult.
JimboS1ice
Looked everything over, got a 886 coming in eBay and just ordered the 3/8" drive, if it doesn't work I'm not out a whole lot of money, I'll keep you guys posted.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

JimboS1ice
Update***Got the impact and the part in and I was able to swap the chucks. Works like a charm, total cost was just around 100 bucks which isn't bad for a brushless impact wrench. I haven't tested it under load yet but there is no play in the chuck, fits like a glove. Here is pictures of the new Dewalt dcf886b-TIA wrench addition.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DR99
That is awesome that it worked. I honestly don't know why Dewalt doesn't have brushless versions yet. They have to test the tool out but still its not like they have to have crazy new tooling. Milwaukee has always launched new compact impact wrenches when they released the new Fuel impact driver. Makita and Milwaukee have a awesome line up. As for the compacts I have the m12 fuel impact driver and that things no slouch.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

DR99
Haha, you could have a small side business now Jimbo. I doubt the margins are worth it though, and the possibility of Dewalt sending lawyers after you.

john92awd
Can you do a torque test? Torque bolts with a torque wrench and see if the dewalt will remove. I know a dcf883 will meet its rated torque of 130ft/lbs. I've personally tested it.

skippy_chippy
Is there a 1/2" anvil available as I would rarely use a 3/8" one?
framer
Is there a 1/2" anvil available as I would rarely use a 3/8" one?if you're going to use 1/2", you might as well get the new dewalt dcf899. it has a ton of power.
dwain
^^^ that's a totally different class though, much more powerful and much larger/heavier. The DCF880 is a compact 1/2" wrench, though not brushless.
JimboS1ice
I have the 1/2" 889, planning on upgrading to the 899 but I wanted a 3/8 when I don't need anything of that caliber.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DR99
If you wanted to do the same conversion with a 1/2 anvil you would need this anvil this is the hog ring anvil they also have the pin detent version too if you want to search for it also. It's 22 dollars from Dewalt might be cheaper at other places.http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/Detail/DCF880HM2
JimboS1ice
There is a washer right at the tip of the anvil you would have to look into getting a different one, I don't think a 1/2" anvil would fit there.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
DR99
I'm not sure which washer you would need for the 1/2 inch but they do that them on the exploded diagram. http://servicenet.dewalt.com/Products/GetDocument?docName=EA024505.tif&docPath=http%3A%2F%2Fdocuments.dewalt.com%2Fdocuments%2FEnglish%2FExploded%2520Art%2FEA024505.png&productId=121122&productType=26899&documentId=43493
