Sun-room rehab. I got a little carried away today.

Making progress over the weekend.

Used the Porter Cable 20V Oscillating tool to remove the tar paper / felt from the floor on Saturday. That task absolutely sucked. Sitting on the floor for a couple of hours and then getting up was tough. My hips were killing me. lol

Once that was done, I put down 1/4' HardiBacker board down in preparation for the tile floor. Also put up the lighting that my wife had picked out. Looks pretty good, Just need to work on tweaking the aiming of the heads once we get the table in there. Working in there gave me a opportunity to try out the Bluetooth speaker that I got for Christmas. That little speaker is awesome and it has about 3 hours of run time.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, it's starting to take shape finally. Doesn't seem like I've been working on it for 2 months.

Going to try to get the floor down this weekend. I was planning my first snowmobiling trip for this weekend, but the way the weather has been in the northeast, it's not happening.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sun Room has taken a back seat for the past 3 weeks. I'm in the middle of snowmobiling season and I spent a couple weekends in New Hampshire.

Back to reality and a change of plans regarding the flooring. Originally we were going to install plank tile in the room, But, I have too much bounce in the floor and I'm very concerned due to the lack of rigidity we'll end up with cracked tile due to the length of the tiles (6" x 36"). There's no access to the floor underneath to add support to the joists.

We started looking at alternate flooring and I believe we came up with a pretty good compromise that's going to end up with the same finished product. We're going with a vinyl version of plank with the same finish and style of the ceramic that we were originally looking at. Material was ordered today, so with any luck I may end up putting the floor down next weekend.

Today was flooring day.

We decided to go with TrafficMaster's Allure Plus 5"x36" vinyl plank flooring. Installation couldn't have been easier, All you need is a utility knife, tin snips and a speed square to install it. We did the entire floor in about 2 hours. Love the look and it was a good compromise from the tile flooring that we were originally looking at. We like it so much, that we've decided to continue the flooring into the kitchen.

Now it's just down to installing the base boards, thresholds and some final paint work.

My daughter had a snow day today so I took advantage of it.

Painted the door and lockset on the bathroom door and installed the baseboards. I'm going to need to install some shoe molding to hide some of the height differences and crowning on the floor. After seeing this, I'm glad we decided to abandon the plank tile.

In the homestretch now.
